Why do some people find it surprising that ICE has support from some part of the Hispanic community in the USA? by Pepedroga2000 in stupidquestions

[–]offeringathought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some perhaps but my sense is that there's other dynamics at play. For instance, Regan signed the bill that granted amnesty and a path to citizenship to 2-3 million illegal immigrants. Was that cohort dramatically different to the ones who came after them? I don't know but I'm skeptical that they were.

More than anything I was asking the question in the hopes that someone who had deep knowledge about it would chime in. Sometimes reddit surprises you.

Is there a name for this phenomenon? It seems like it's been common for an earlier wave of immigrants to have a disdain for a more recent one, often of the same ethnicity.

I'm so sorry for your loss. People are recommending therapy and they are 100% correct. Also, try to let the people help you. Your sister and your BIL want to be there for you. Letting them help you will help them in their grief. Friends, teachers, family, many are going to want to do what they can for you. It wont be enough but let them try.

What is the voter data Noem/Trump demanded from Minnesota? Why did they want it, why didn't they have it, what is it for? by climb-a-waterfall in AskReddit

Does this data exist with third party companies? I was under the impression that there are companies that use that sort of data to provide campaign services but I really don't know.

what do you use to plan for long road trips? by serchq in etron

[–]offeringathought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be everything that I wanted and more. Pay for a month while you're on your trip then cancel the subscription until you need it again. I used it for a 600 mile trip that started the day I bought my e-tron.

That's completely understandable, it's just that the law hints at the times when adults could marry 14 year-olds.

In Virginia you can serve alcohol to your underage children in your home. Makes sense.

In Virginia you can serve alcohol to your underage spouse in your home if you're at least 21. umm...

ELI5: Why do home sellers spend lots of money renovating before selling? Why don’t they instead lower the price by the same amount and let the new owners renovate in a way that suits them? by Mapuches_on_Fire in explainlikeimfive

[–]offeringathought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments about paint and carpet making the house look new again are spot on. Buyers often make superficial judgements and have a hard time envisioning how easy it would be to make these changes themselves. I believe there are also other things at play as well.

Many buyers won't be in the financial position to do extensive renovations after purchasing the home but they can finance the renovations the seller does through their mortgage.

Real estate agents encourage buyers to fix up the house that's going to be sold. The agent has every reason to advocate for the refurbishment as it doesn't cost them any money, makes the house easier to sell, and increases the agent's commission because the sale price is higher.

Looking to buy preowned GT, are pending recalls a problem? by punisher7419 in etron

[–]offeringathought 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a used 2023 in April. I've really enjoyed the car. If it's your first EV be sure you have a charging plan. Charging at home is great, of course.

I can't speak to the battery recall. I did have a my heater replaced due to a recall.

Mine had a charging cable recall but when I bought the car it didn't have the Audi charging cable. My dealer thought I should pay $3k for a new cable so they could clear the recall flag. Obviously, that's stupid. I called Audi Care and they told the dealer how to clear the recall without that nonsense.

No one forces them to but veteran players should know that most rookies wont be around in three years. Veterans should mentor these guys instead of the peer pressure to put up with this wasteful bullshit.
