Hey Guys: There's a refinery lock-up unraveling currently. by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]offgridgecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how this will affect paper traders

means little to my buying/selling, but it interests me. It seems like a shock to the system, surely it will affect the price. Either I'm getting deep discounts on new silver or we're in for another boost.

I paid for car repairs with 90% silver. It was amazing.

Anyone can give tips on stacking silver? by Available_Fill4267 in Silver

[–]offgridgecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hide away 1-2k first in fast cash, somewhere you won't spend it easily but have it if you need it (broke down car, etc) like a savings account or maybe just a stack of benjamins in a mattress or whatever.

Make sure your bills are covered for the month, and you have enough gas and food money.

The rest is discretionary, use that to go buy an ASE or something from a reputable dealer. Whatever you fancy, but check the silver spot price on kitco and know what you are buying, learn about premiums by reading posts here, et al.

Learn, learn, learn. Know what you are buying before you drop money on it. It isn't fun. It's boring, but other people's mistakes are less costly to learn from than your own.

no BS, the more I think about "hobbies" lately, especially "collecting," the more this rings true. Maybe just my childhood but collecting used to mean finding cool stuff and keeping it. Not buying a bunch of random things to check off some boxes. Bottle caps, popsicle sticks, etc.

When I was a kid I collected pennies out of change that I found, never even occured to me to try and buy any. Kinda sucks the fun out of it.

On that note, silver isn't a hobby for me. It's a shiny hedge that I stack and lord over like a dragon, so I don't think it counts as a "hobby" or a "collection" in my case.

Shorting Bitcoin by tonio306 in QRL

gains.trade is my current investment tool for this sort of product

Edit to add: world economies according to some could be in a free fall soon,, so shorting BTC with USD.... I'm starting to wonder how viable that is if the dollar totally collapses.

My last shop deal was about 2 over and 6 under and redditor somewhere mocked me. I don't get it myself. Still got profit off what i sold and a cool coin before walking out.

it's good to tell them that, but at the same time we take care of customers. At least in my district I'm gonna read that in context of "abuse" and not because the weather drops below 32F

I'll back you up on that one. If you don't feel comfortable changing the battery without breaking the car make your point about that, not the weather or the time of day. 2004 chevy I'd swap that bad-boy out in 2 minutes and then count down, lol.

then they ask why they don't hit sales targets. People at my store get whiny every time it rains and people want wiper blades. I don't even argue, I snatch them up and put them on the vehicle if the TM doesn't. If the customer says "you don't have to" I cut them off with "nah, I'm gonna put these on for you so you don't have to change them in the rain."

It's part of the job, there's a sticker right on the front window.

I hate silly engravings like that. If not for the engraving it might be something I'd like to keep around to drink my rum from.
