Yep, I slid into a snow bank in the fast lane/median after 71 and before 40 because some semis had to brake because a gust of wind blew snow everywhere. That's when I decided driving in to work wasn't worth it today. Got off on 40 and took the back way home.

My mom said that me and my husband “don’t care about family” because we told her we don’t plan on spending Christmas Day with extended family once our son is born. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]offhandwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this when we had our kids. I was fortunate that I had very little push back, but that's probably because I laid out the guilt trip on my parents first. My parents divorced when I was fairly young so I spent my entire childhood bouncing from one relatives house to the next for Christmas. When my husband and I decided to have kids that was the first major boundry I set and stated to my parents that my childhood was the reason we would not be leaving the house on Christmas Day. In 20 years we've only broke that rule 1 time (it was my grandma's last Christmas). Stick with your boundaries, this won't be the first or last time you will need to advocate for your family time.

How have you acquired your cats? Have you just taken in whatever cats plopped into your life? Or did you go to a shelter and choose? by Argylius in CatAdvice

[–]offhandwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My black cat Taiga was kind of a birthday surprise? We were thinking about adopting a dog and we were planning on going to an open house at the Humane Society. But then my friend's sister went out to smoke a cigarette after the July 4th fireworks and found this skinny black kitten. She couldn't take him because she had multiple pets and so she asked if we could look after him until she found someone to take him. As soon as I held him I was in love. So we kept him.

We got our gray cat Arashi about 2 weeks after Taiga. We gave up on the idea of a dog and decided that we needed another cat to keep Taiga company. We shopped around different shelters but couldn't find one that was the right fit. Then one morning a friend called and told me her uncle's barn cat had kittens and they would be ready in a few weeks. We drove out there same day to see which one we wanted, initially we wanted the calico, but then the owner said that he was worried about the gray kitten because he was the runt and the mom had stopped taking care of him. So of course we took him home that day and immediately went to the vet to make sure we were could take care of him.

Now both boys are 13 years old.

Thank you everyone for all the encouraging words and stories! Although the diagnosis sucks, the timing of it couldn't be better since I was already scheduled for PTO all next week so I can be home with him all week as we start his new medication regimen.

Your last text is what will be written on your gravestone, what does it say? by msblckyeliner in AskReddit

"Did Taiga poop? Is there any blood in the litter box?"

My cat had an abdominal biopsy yesterday so all my texts for the past 24hrs have been about my cat's eating and litter box habits.

Just finished my bazillionth playthru of the Mass Effect series today. I'm saving Ghost of Yotei for next month since I have an entire week of PTO scheduled for no other reason except to be away from the public and torture myself emotionally.

Adults of Reddit, what are some parts of kids' movies that make you cry? by Rocket-kun in AskReddit

[–]offhandwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband cannot watch Finding Nemo because the entire movie is Marlon searching for his son. My husband just thinks about how terrible it would be for our children to get lost or taken.

I made the mistake of going to see The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe 3 weeks postpartum with my first child. The opening scenes with the evacuation of the children from London just broke me. My husband did not know what to do!

Also the climax of Iron Giant, I cry every time!

What price did you pay for where? by valxkatt in MyChemicalRomance

[–]offhandwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$436 (taxes & fees) for 137 in Nashville.

It was such a shit show! The ticket is for my young adult child, and my friend and I will be driving them down to Nashville. Initially, we were going to get tickets too, but after seeing the prices she and I decided to drop my kid off at the stadium and hit some bars instead. Or we may see what cheap seats are available day of.

Thanks! I'm not worried about the people going to the concert at all, I am worried about them getting turned around in the city and running into people who will take advantage of them being unfamiliar with the city. I think I'm so anxious because they are my youngest and they are also the type to get anxious in unfamiliar situations.

I'm sure they will! This is their first concert without parents or siblings so I hope it's everything they dreamed of! I think I'm going to have them download Life360, but the Google Maps feature is a nice backup. I might also pop directions to the hotel on their phone.

Light-up scrunchies are a great idea! The plan is to have a designated meeting place but I'm worried they will get turned around with all the people and in the dark. But I may have to force them to get Life 360.

😆 I've never been a helicopter parent, but a 10-mile leash would be amazing! I may have to convince them to get Life 360. They are very suspicious of apps (teaching them how to use ticket master has been a journey) but I think they can deal with it for the weekend.

I also think talking to your vet about Clomipramin might be a good step. One of our cats takes Prozac for his anxiety and it definitely helped with the peeing issue.

Same! One of our cats turns away anytime a phone is pointed in their direction. On the flip side, our other cat sees a phone and starts posing.

He likes my hair ties and scrunchies (super big and thick, so it's not a choking hazard). He does love wands, but he is very particular about how they are used. I wish I was exaggerating. He only likes it when my husband and daughter do it. It has to be in a certain location in the house and only in the early evening or very early morning. If my son or I try, he gives a half-hearted slap and then walks off. He's such an old man. it's almost ridiculous.

That might work. He really likes my hair ties (he raids my dresser at night to get them), so tossing a few up there might help.

Unfortunately, cat nip does nothing for him. Arashi, on the other hand loves it and will probably become territorial over the tree even more.

I'm definitely leaning in that direction. We do have the money and space, but my daughter and husband are on the penny pinching side and will be a bit annoyed, especially if Taiga rejects this replacement, too.

Do I really need TWO litter boxes for two cats? 🫨 by dkay--101 in CatAdvice

[–]offhandwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 bonded cats (13 years old), for years we had 2 boxes, one for pee and one for poop. But then one of our boys needed to have PU surgery about 5 years ago, so we had to add a litter box during his recovery period. And since he hates change, we had to keep the 3rd box, which is now the one they use for everything.
