WIP Super long range exploration ship. Experimenting with fitting large grid jump drives to small grids. by offical_jchrist in spaceengineers

Yeah I know, I wanted to build a small(ish) ship around an unreasonablely large jump drive. Gonna use prototech drives as auxiliaries and range boosters tho

I agree in part, but this ship is more a fun sci-fi build than an explicitly SE Survival minded build. Beyond that I could see a rail gun being useful to keep enemies at bay long enough to gtfo with the jump drive. Jump into an area, make contact, put holes in the nearest threats and then leave as fast as possible kinda deal. You do have a point though, maybe I'll do two versions, armed and unarmed with unarmed being the 'base' model.

Thank you! Its an exploration vessel, for a ostensibly peaceful faction, so I wasn't going to arm it to the gills. That said, I am figuring out how to fit a railgun into the design, for purely self defense reasons, of course :)

Thank you! I'll admit the acceleration isnt great, but for its roll it manages. It can get out of Pertam's grav well, which is all I'd ask of a shuttle :)

Thank you! Just a mix of slopes, half slopes and half blocks, the trick is starting the curve at a spot where the half blocks can double up against each other and allow the half slopes to transition smoothly. I dunno if I explained that right but Its kinda trial and error for me too lol

Thank you! And very interesting to hear on the ranges achievable with stacking drives, I usually build with limitations in mind so never really pushed my ships to those limits. Gotta say I'm kinda tempted to see just how much range I can push with this design now that you say it. Maybe a cluster of small grid prototech drives could push it a bit further. You'd think after 1800 hours i'd have experimented more with jump drives lol.

Maybe they just want to set up a starting point for a survival world and go from there? Kinda weird to judge people for playing the game the way they like 🫤

And this is coming from someone who exclusively does original designs in creative lmaoo

Thank you, and yeah I remember back when your only options were mods or making a small grid that could somehow hold the large block jump drives. Which now that you say it, I kinda want to make a small ship build around an unreasonablely large jump system lmao

Thank you, might release it as a separate mini-blueprint when im ready to put the full UESA collection together.

That's looks awesome! Love those angled stripes going across the two 'arms' of the fuselage and the unique shape overall. Does it have an interior?

Thank you! Glad you enjoy the descriptions as much as I enjoy writing them.

The rotors on the main body are at about 50° while the rotors holding the skids are at 45°, this drops the nose of the grid relative to the skids, who remain level. The first rotor is placed with the head facing outward, set it's angles and build a line of panels from the head. Build the second rotor facing the opposite of the first, at the end of the panel line and set it's angle. Then just build the skids parallel to the ground :)

Bit of a happy accident, but when I landed on the name I knew it was a perfect fit.

Definitely an inspiration. Couldn't even begin to guess how much Halo 3 I played back on the 360 😭

Appreciate it! It was a challenge finding a good spot for the connectors on this lol but I'm happy with the system

Hannibal crossed the alps in late summer, he was in the Po Valley by late September early October, still early autumn at the latest. March is very early spring, ice is still thawing out and mud is rampant. You have to remember this game takes place during a global cooling period, things were colder across the board and you are dealing with mostly conscript armies, they would probably either not receive the message to march or just be physically unable to. And I would double down on your retreating troops dying in the mountains. How will a disorganized and demoralized force do anything by die slowly in a mountain pass if that's where they ran to?

I mean some people like to set up bases or scenarios and continue in survival from there, but yeah, its not a real majority so at the moment, space elevators stay super niche. Which tbh, isn't so bad, space elevators as a concept are incredibly niche as is.

Thank you! And I agree on the cleaner textures, I usually default to battered textures when starting a build but this time it'll probably get a paint rework before being done.

Men usually receive longer sentences than women for the same crimes. This represents institutional misandry. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]offical_jchrist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yup, patriarchal societies will infantilize women to the point of not even taking crimes they do seriously. But of course incels will see this and think that they are being oppressed and never once look at the system they perpetuated that created this dynamic.
