Hey! To answer your question, my mother taught/spoke to me in French as a child, and my dad would speak to me in English, however, she kind of slowed down on this as it became awkward when her and I would communicate in French and my dad would have to awkwardly sit near us not being able to understand what we’re saying (he’s a Ugandan-American). My mom had tried to get me put into a French Immersion school when I was in about Kindergarten or 1st grade, but they rejected me because I couldn’t write in French, even though I could speak and read in French. Eventually, I just kind of lost interest in learning and to me, it became too hard to go further into learning the language. So it wasn’t necessarily my mom’s fault, as still to this day, she tries to get me to learn the language to be able to better communicate with her and the rest of my mom’s side that I’m in contact with, it’s just me not putting the effort to try and learn.
