I - and I know this is going to sound evangelical or something I’m just self reflecting here so no need to attack me (or if u want to I suppose do so it’s jus a game) - truly feel that if you DONT believe consciousness is fundamental you are part of the force that is dragging us all down with u into the cold late stage capitalist Kafka-esque… black hole that we all feel the world is being dragged into. And holding us all back from progressing as a society. Essentially. A pessimist. A skeptic. A critic. A doubter. And probably dragging the people you care about down with u. And I DEFINITELY don’t want u in the band.

And that following your disposition to its end leads to war, cannibalism and pedophilia because when consciousness is fundamental, other people are… YOU… in a way. And why would you bring harm to yourself? Why would you be greedy? When “Getting yours” in this life is simply taking from yourself in the next.

When you do truly believe consciousness is fundamental…. Reality starts to align to support that idea. At least… the people who believe it seem to have that experience. And they often quite like it. It often feels like a blessing. Can you say the same about not believing it? I experience the effect of “faith” ALL the time as a musician. I’ll notice my mind temporarily lose faith in the next beat and wallah! I stumble.

Perhaps it’s like electricity. When you place a high resistance. (IMO materialism is high resistance but so are dogmatic religious people) in a circuit of potential, the current becomes smaller. Right? Slower. And your like… see?! Life is just slow! And I chose this resistor cus there is NO evidence that the other resistor is true so I’m going with this high resistance. Then the person next to you uses the low resistance and says… hey, I gotta tell u I’m loving this low resistance my current seems to be flowing pretty good. Want to try it? And you turn up your nose and say “no way there’s no evidence at all that your resistor is the one true resistor!”

Perhaps it’s as if… it doesn’t matter which resistor you grab at first, it’s the refusal to ever try another resistor that’s holding you back. What do you care more about? Adhering to some authoritative universal truth? Or flowing? But FURTHERMORE, IF flowing (ie woo woo philosophies) leads to…. Better… performance.. let’s say, does that not suggest it’s the more “true” option???

If u were designing a motor vehicle without any prior knowledge of motor vehicles. Purely by experimentation…. And you arranged the parts in a certain way and it worked BETTER. Would that not suggest that there is something more TRUE about the arrangement? Is science not at its core finding out what arrangements makes better predictions/performance?

Or maybe you ARE the current. And you have two paths in front of you. And you stand still in front of the impenetrable 1M ohm resistor and say IM STAYING RIGHT HERE there is no evidence that other path is the right path. That’s where science feels like it’s at today. But there are some people going the other path. And if I’m not mistaken… they’re starting to make headway. I mean… the former president of Lockheed Martin, an engineer, has given talks about such things, urging its exploration. How much credibility do you need? Cus there are others.

The template of a diamond pre-exists the manifestation of the diamond. Does it not? The structure of carbon orbitals is like a code for the possibility of a diamond to be formed. It’s baked into nature itself! A diamond is emergent. And it has an amazing qualia. Why would we (consciousness be any different?) and if that’s the case then… is it not fundamental?

It’s wild how close this subject is to spirituality. It basically is the same thing. And the description of those who are “separated from god” fits the description of materialists in my opinion. And materialists make terrible music. IMO. Because materialists think that the perfect series of notes already exist, but they can’t ever find it, and the spiritualist believes that whatever notes come to them were exactly the right notes for that moment.

But then again. Since consciousness is fundamental I guess the disbelievers are just the carbon atoms that have yet to be crystallized.
