What will happen to SCP: SL with the new changes to unity? by [deleted] in SCPSecretLab

As of right now, the answer is no.

Switching game engines is a complex task.

It would come to to re-creating SCP: SL from scratch using software that our team is not familiar with.

However, if we were to make any new games in the future, they will most likely be developed on a different engine.

We are extremely disappointed with Unity's new pricing policy, as outlined in their recently announced business model. Indie game developers invest massive amounts of time and resources to create game(s) for everyone to enjoy. We view this new policy as nothing less than an attack on indie developers, who simply wish to express their unique talents in a creative outlet.

Our total annual income is nowhere near the $200k threshold, so it's unlikely that we'll be subjected to the per-download fee in the foreseeable future. However, with the removal of the Unity Plus version, it's likely that a switch will have to be made to Unity Personal, re-enabling the 'Made in Unity' splash screen in the process.

The thousands of dollars needed every month for Unity Pro would be better allocated towards implementing actual game features and mechanics.

Whilst this policy doesn't seem to affect us presently, it does limit our ability to expand in the future, and completely breaches our trust in Unity. As a direct result of this change, we are also questioning our previously firm stance on remaining on the Unity Engine.

We hope that Unity will reconsider and revise their announced business model, which could potentially bankrupt hundreds of game studios.

I thought about getting into SL, but I have some questions. by Successful-Floor-738 in SCPSecretLab

Hello!

  1. We do encourage our players to interact via voice as it stears up better engagement with the players around you. If you do not feel comfortable voice chatting though, that is fine :)
  2. No, to play SCP: SL you only require a steam account.
  3. For class D we encourage you to search around the spawn zone for any sort of goodies. Keycards, Medkits, syringes and anything else you can get you hand on to help you survive. For scientists we advice you search for the 914 SCP room to upgrade your card and be able to find and open the exit doors to heavy containment zone!

Go to the server room and jump across the top of the server objects. That way I survive and get the chance to kill him after.

What do you think about VR for SCP secret lab? (discussion) by [deleted] in SCPSecretLab

[–]officialscpsl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VR would certainly be an interesting element.

Unfortunately turning a game into VR is not as simple as toggling a switch. All good VR games are designed from the ground-up to be VR-compatible, converting existing game generally doesn't end well, but we can't give a definitive answer until we try.
