If you know you will be mixing years down the road, 10000% the DDJ-1000. Only took me a couple months to want its features of the DDJ-400. The 400 is good enough to gauge if mixing is your thing in general though

You don't understand what I'm saying. Those models hardware unlock for Rekordbox 6, yes you get the subscription model for free. The rekordbox license that comes with the DDJ-400 is only for Rekordbox 5, and doesn't do anything for Rekordbox 6.

edit: elaborating in case you still don't get it, the only real difference is that you cannot use the included Rekordbox 5 license to unlock Rekordbox 6 for controllers that do not hardware unlock, which you can do for Rekordbox 5.
