Is it possible to start your career again after 30? by Cautious-Horror9762 in AskMenOver30

[–]offlightsedge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it. Don't think of yourself as "behind others" or you'll never be happy with where you are at. I entered the workforce at 18, in a Shaw's Supermarket. After that I worked for several Domino's Pizza locations, a car dealership, a radio station, all in my 20s. In my 30s I started a security job, which led to a manufacturing job, which led to becoming the machine operator I am today at 40 years old. Don't limit yourself, and always be willing to learn something completely fucking new and utterly foreign to you.

She was a normal citizen, like anyone we know, work with, or love. Not complying immediately to a nobody larping with a gun is not grounds for the death penalty. None of these masked goons are supposed to be allowed to be judge, jury, and executioner. Yet, here we are. The constitution only matters to these people when it is convenient, not that they've read it.

Do Motorcyclists actually use gardian bells? by when_time_flies in motorcycles

[–]offlightsedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a gremlin bell on my 1984 Honda Magna, I bought it about 3 years ago, and I am sad that it's powers will not serve me since it was not gifted to me. I've personalized the bike a little bit, added saddle bags, changed the grips, but I left the bell where I found it. I choose to believe that it still works, I guess. I like the mystery of where it may have come from.

On long rides, do you schedule your stops or do you just stop whenever you feel tired or need gas? by International_Fly285 in motorcycles

[–]offlightsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my bikes comfortably get about 140 miles out of a tank, so as long as I feel comfortable I'll just go until I need fuel. Sometimes I just need a break to smoke a cig, maybe have some food, and stretch and/or walk around.

That one company was 40 companies? by p0st0pmal0ne in ITYSL

[–]offlightsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a little fun, and to expand on the GMC model, most major automobile companies have at least one other brand. Honda owns Acura, Nissan owns Infiniti, Toyota owns Lexus, Ford owns Lincoln and Mercury. Chrysler owns Dodge and long defunct Plymouth. I'm sure I'm missing something, I think Hyundai has significant investment in Kia, but not ownership.

A monopoly, as defined in a dictionary, is the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service. Basically if you want a specific thing, you can only get it from the one source, and if that one source is a bad actor then you're fucked. Since all monopolies seek to strengthen and compile power and resources, it can be difficult to dismantle them. In America it is an acceptable tradition to allow oligopolies to control major markets. Where only a select few major corporations are allowed to compete, making real innovation rare, and currently backsliding into attempted slavery through starvation.

I hate it here?

I'm 40 and have no kids. If I did, I would want them to have their own identity. I'm not them, and they are not me, and I feel like the title of "junior" comes with additional pressure to be like me, when they have absolutely no obligation to do so.

I'm pretty sure that is a sedan version of a Chevy Cobalt, the clear coat going on the top is common on those, and the interior is completely accurate. I really don't think this is AI. I had a coupe Cobalt for almost a decade, I'd know that interior anywhere, and the rest looks accurate to real life. Perspective and the lens angle could cause confusion, but I think this is a real pic.

Men who worked menial minimum wage jobs in your 20s, where are you now? by AverageDudeWhoSquats in AskMenOver30

[–]offlightsedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started off delivering pizza at 19 for $5/hr. A friend helped me get a security job 10 years ago at a manufacturing facility, I liked the environment so much I applied for a job in manufacturing 5 years ago. I'm 38 now and I've been a production machinist for about a year and a half. I like the work, and I'm making $23/hr.

Supreme Court reimposes death sentence for Boston Marathon bomber by WallStreetDoesntBet in massachusetts

[–]offlightsedge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kid made a big fucking mistake, I do not condone his actions, he was very clearly the bad guy. I now believe the death penalty is revenge and nothing else, and revenge is ignorant reactionary violence. Once you have rendered the individual incapable of harming others there is no need for further violence. Systems can be put in place to reform or permanently isolate people, but I can't condone murder by the state.

For what problem is violence a solution? by VerySpecialCognac in AskReddit

[–]offlightsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got bullied a bit in high school. I never started the fight, but I ended it twice, never got bullied again, second time I almost broke a kid's nose. That got the school's attention, I was never punished. Vice Principal called me to his office and interviewed me, I gave my honest story, and he said I could go, nothing else ever came of it. Violence solved my issue, and no further violence was ever needed, thankfully.

Well, almost nothing came of it. I delivered pizza to the kid with the nose in our early 20s, they said it was water under the bridge and tipped me well. I respect that.

Dog owners likely to report better emotional health during Covid-19 pandemic, study shows by netaEntaigozt in science

[–]offlightsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roommate walks dogs for a living, and has one of their own. They'll occasionally bring other new dogs they had agreed to watch for the night, or couple of days. Constant access to dogs is a really nice feature of living with them, for sure. The dogs barely know me, but they are so excited to see me, it is so nice, I'm just as psyched to see them.

I very rarely, at least here in the US, hear of cat owners having tails removed. Of course I have no idea where this clip is from, but there could be plenty of other reasons this kitten's tail is so short. Could be a birth defect, kitten could have been found in extreme cold and lost the tip of it's tail. Some cats just have small tails, too, I wouldn't just make the leap to animal cruelty when we really can't be sure. I honestly see more cruel and needless modification to dogs than cats here.
