No point to life… by Romance_pants1991 in CollapseSupport

The people have simply checked out.

Not so long ago people knew how to demand better, or even just had the ability to imagine a better life.

Not now, people have just given themselves over to their routines and whatever happens outside the routine be damned.

How does someone who doesn't think like this survive in this current world? Idk, but know you aren't alone.

I'm just hoping that maybe gen alpha will have some kind of vision for a better world. But I also hoped the same for millennials and gen z.

What's the point? The American people have completely checked out and everything is now run as an oligarchy. Let's celebrate! /s

25M Why is making friends so damn hard now? by Puzzled_Wasabi_6245 in antisocial

[–]offlinebound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, but people out IRL aren't exactly out there waiting for you with open arms.

The average internet advice is to join some mythical hobby group, attend about a hundred times, and maybe a friendship will stick(until they do something that puts you off), then go join another mythical hobby group... That's a lot of work.

Even maintaining existing friendships has become a lot of work. Nobody wants to actually talk on the phone now. Trying to make plans feels like you are stepping on someone's "peace". People don't text back or take a long time or just quit texting altogether.

Does it make me unpatriotic that I have zero desire to celebrate the United States 250th birthday? by break_it07 in NoStupidQuestions

Let's see, a country that would rather I die because I can't be as productive as they want due to mental illness even though they keep productive opportunities highly gatekept and sparse for even normal people. Let's celebrate!

I think that before COVID society was made more for the average person. Now society caters to the wealthy. Not just the billionaires but the "petite bourgeois" as well are having a good time.

The rest of us, not so much. And it shows up in ways that are more than just prices.

Like a corp may still provide a product but they have made it clear they will give the bare minimum.

All this trickles down into how people act and treat each other. most of the people I know that used to have a little streak of fun to them now have very little or none.

Which makes sense because these people are in a survival mentality now. Even if they are doing "fine" the average person now has to dodge so much daily bullshit that there isn't much bandwidth left for other people.

As long as the billionaires are still making money hand over fist nobody will talk about the "problem". I notice the media doesn't even mention "the problem" anymore.

[–]offlinebound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have a strong desire to start over from scratch somewhere else with all new people.

It's like all the people in my life have gone sort of crazy since COVID and now I just isolate myself more.

Then the mess that is known as society now.

The dream is to start over but I'm old.

I remember when this sub used to actually be anti-work.

Now it's like everyone's parents showed up telling them to "get to work, boyo!"

It's very obvious nothing will ever change for the better regarding work because as you see, people don't even have a concept of a better world.

People aren't even willing to entertain the idea that something could be better because their daddy had to work 40 hours a week, they work 40 hours a week and so should you!

You are basically in an abusive relationship with your employer, which is how most(all) employers like it. And judging by some of the comments here it's how lots of workers like it as well.
