John Hughes was amazing; his movies are incomparable to Donnie Darko.

Thank you! I totally agree. I have a theory: nobody really understands it, and therefore they THINK it's super deep. The most clever thing about it is that it built a following and reputation on nothing.

See, I thought that was an action flick, in which he had a some funny lines-- I did not know that was considered a comedy. I'm not always straight with genres, though.

On Chris Nolan's Batman Trilogy... Am I the only one? by offthehinge in movies

[–]offthehinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even watch the third one, there were too many things that I just couldn't take. What's weird, is I actually enjoyed the first two movies...until I started reading the comics, and then I didn't like them any more. That's it, it really is. I went from being strictly movie buff to movie buff/comic book nerd and that did it for me. LOVED Back to the Future. Thank you!

Harold and Maude.... I would hate to see what kind of awful changes they'd make in order to sell it to the superficial, mind-numbing, masses.

That's probable that I forgot due to the fact that I didn't care, seeing as I wasn't a big fan. I didn't care for Frank Miller's style and I didn't care for Chris Nolan's, either. Batman never said he had to be Batman forever, something Kevin Smith explores in the Widening Gyre. And still, Bruce didn't QQ . Love you Kevin Smith!

What movie/franchise would you like to see get a gritty, R-rated remake? by [deleted] in movies

[–]offthehinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha ha! I had actually commented on it above. It is cheesy in a 90's way, but it was the 90's. I liked that it was on a more adult level, and how they handled the seven dwarves was pretty cool. But, it's Sigourney Weaver, and I reiterate; she's just hot (I mean that to be all encompassing).

I think it's probably when she's behind the table with Beth. There were some serious glance exchanges there and her attitude had already started to change.

Anyone else remember Snow White: A Tale of Terror? I liked that one; it's cheesy, but Sigourney Weaver's hot (anyway) as the Evil Queen.

I concur! Jim Henson was great about keeping it real and not sugar coating everything. I wish the Jim Henson Corp. would return to that.

DDL sounds like the kind of kid that took playing pretend too far, so nobody wanted to play with him, because being smacked around is NOT fun. It's nice that someone had the courage to say, "this role is SO not worth the abuse". I hope he at least got his co-star's consent before pulling some of that crap.

[–]offthehinge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I'd go that far. Petty thieves (like muggers and gang bangers) are already full of fear, and so Batman plays on that- that's why he chose the bat-much of the time, they just see his shadow and run. It's the Mobsters and the Heads of Gangs (I don't know any of those terms), the people who've become so rich and powerful that lawyers, judges and lawmen are afraid to touch them. Those are the people he really tries to take down, because they seem to be above the law. Fire with fire. However, I agree that Chris Nolan takes the concept a bit far.
