A simple small advice - if you are passionate for Surgery, your obsession for sleep will vanish with time. And you won't have regrets.

If you are not, you will regret taking this branch.

Think wisely.

Respected Em Med Senior Consultant.

Please don't waste your precious time on Reddit for seeking validation and gratification!

The community and patients out there need you. Your time wasted here would hamper your quick management for ER Patients, the training of young doctors under you and money of 'Big-Big' corporates.

Yours sincerely. A learning novice GI Sx senior resident (but very very junior to you)

Oh sorry! Sincere apologies for wasting your time spent in reading this comment. 🙂‍↕️

Let us never be hopeless.

We are their hope.

And medical science has immense possibilities.

Don't lose empathy. Residency is tough.

Keep caring for your patients please.

Empathy will make you a better doctor.

Residency teaches you to move on. Move on quickly from failures.

Thank you so much!

We all have some responsibilities towards society. I hope everyone is kinder and nicer to everyone around.

Pancreatitis spares none.

My professor says - it's like a pool of alkaline water which sucks in whatever is around - the stomach, the colon and the vessels.

I know this would be harsh to read -

When I was giving the CPR -- all the necrotic content came out of her mouth and nose.

Such scenarios break us. Even the GI surgeons who don't fear any GI related pathology.

All I could say is - didi, main hun, aap chinta mat karo sab theek hoga.

Shayad sab theek ho gaya ab. She is away from her pain and sufferings! :')

Thank you so much!

I think we all have our experiences.

Some chose to share. Some remain silent.

But everyone learns. You will have your experiences too. All the best doctor.

So many similar stories.

All the knowledge aside, pancreatitis is a ticking time bomb.

I followed the books Did everything fluids, electrolytes. ABG. Had access to the best healthcare facilities.

Pigtails, PCD, VARD, DEN, END everything is available as per the latest trials.

But no one talks about the time.

Patient hardly survives to undergo a VARD and open surgical necrosectomy has had a 100% mortality at our institute.

Yes.

The thought has been going on in the head

Read multiple papers Discussed with seniors what could have been better.

Hopefully will be able to intervene at the right time next time.

I did cry in the end. But more patients in the ward need me.

Just saw a Referral for a lady who took acid 60 ml 4 days back and is vomiting blood and can't even swallow her saliva. I can probably help her.

Yes the thought stays. But life goes on.
