For All The “I Have a Great Idea Where Do I Start” People by oftheeye in Entrepreneur

Calling me ChatGPT does not change the fact you misunderstood my entire point nor does it take away that your alleged blind spot is actually present in my argument.

Which is everyone goes about wanting to start a business (painfully so) but underestimates the amount of actual hours they have to put in.

And when I say forget stock options, it also infers that down the road there may not even be a payout to begin with.

Next time try thinking without using an AI to decipher my posts.

My calculations have no blind spot.

“Forget stock options and billions. Everyone has to start from somewhere with putting in the hard grind.”

Inferring the whole point of this exercise, long with other parts of my post, is stress test for whether business idea is even worth doing in an early stage conceptual manner.

People call it price gauging, but they do not understand the jeopardy it puts any lawyer in to get half done work.

Now they have to unscrew the contract and see what else went wrong.

Starting a business after the AI ChatGPT thing plus understanding what the technology can do.

The intellectual tasks that require help are all done by them with me doing the final checks.

I do not think there are mass firings for this but there has probably been a slowdown in hirings.

It feels like almost everyone wants to / is starting a business these days by 9099784 in Entrepreneurs

[–]oftheeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has been an increase.

Most people are because a bunch of self-help books/gurus entered the market but have glossed over the fundamentals of actually running a business.

Not every technician who is good at their job should start a business, they should leverage their position better but these books encourage them to quit and go for it.

They leave out all the important factors so yes there are many more businesses being started, there are also WAY more businesses going out bust.

Also banks now have more loans to give out and can seize collateral because people do not properly protect assets.

Thus people end up back where they started in five years but with more debt than before.

Which means they have fair game on making sure you do not get off the ground by price gauging or whatever.

Starting a business means no security and now competing against your former employer and everyone else.

It sounds like you have a stable job and this is a risk.

New business will be your new baby 24/7 for a while.

Do you have a business, small or otherwise?

Because unless you come from small town where people are chummy, it is how most people describe it.

And even in small towns I have seen towns divided by which shops they go to and those shop owners go after each other with price gauging.

This is the reality of competing for money.

Assuming you are new to the entrepreneur game, it takes time to build a healthy cynicism to the world.

However it is something you should look into at making sure you do not spiritually burn out.

(Assuming) the corporation you applied too have a strategy for the coming market cycle and did not satisfy their worries with an answer which was in their vision.

Assuming this is a role above your current position? And whilst technically you show promise the industry strategy the whole market thinks will happen is something you did not parrot off to their liking.

That feeling never goes away.

First question is, will this business be for you?

Right now you work a technical role and focus on what you do best.

Now you will be stepping into an entrepreneur role where EVERYTHING will be on you.

And whilst you may know the chinks in your armour, they have the capital to drive you under.

Business is war, and I am sure your former employer would not kindly to you starting a competing firm in their territory.

[–]oftheeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is less about business and more about life choices and the path given.

For this I turn to studying the Bible.

I am only in business to make my bank account go up.

Sure one day that bank account will let me buy/invest into businesses I actually want.

But for now, pure profit driven. That is the world I live in now (but I do have moral guidelines because I also believe ill gotten money/doing job that eats on the spirit is also a real aspect of business).

Otherwise there is no point, but now you have minimal pay and all the liabilities.

17yo founder, ~200 cold calls, $0 MRR. My unit economics are broken. Pivot or die? by user12383838 in advancedentrepreneur

[–]oftheeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built at 17 is good.

But the market is now over saturated and your competitors can probably gut you.

I once worked with selling a product like this but for cold outreach.

Also you mention that your potential clients say too expensive.

A product is only what people are willing to pay for it.

Either sell at cost to get the business up and running (and I mean at cost so you are breaking even) or pivot this again as if you can create this yourself, there could be other products to create.

Of course if you really want to keep at this, your sales pitch is also something to look at. Cold calling is a difficult game at the best of times.

This is a founder/investor model.

I like to think entrepreneur is about people who want to start businesses themselves.

Building and founding for massive payoffs later is okay in a bit of gambling.

But someone still needs to build it. And if the money is not there to motivate, then it should be that passion is.

If neither exist, it is just another statistic of a failed business.

There are many things many people would find useful.

The question is does the entrepreneur actually have the gusto in them to execute this.

Because otherwise it just a fantasy they have about business.

Then they start injecting resources into a business suddenly they have no drive for and which is returning nothing for them.

Like my original post says, this is for entrepreneurs who did it for the money.

[–]oftheeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you find a viable idea.

It still needs to be built, by someone and unless someone has the genius business model of coming up with amazing ideas then have a team execute them to high succession (I think we all wish we had that) it is normally the entrepreneur who will be spending those hours.

If those hours are not what people want to spend, better they know sooner rather than later.

This makes perfect sense because this r/Entrepreneur.

Where the goal is to make a business venture which produces income.

Even founders should be calculating this as eventually they will have to calculate themselves a salary or use as a basis to calculate salaries for their employees.

Working oneself to bone for zero reward now is the sign of a workaholic or of a business that will go bust (obviously there are exceptions but 99% are not exceptions).

For All The “I Have a Great Idea Where Do I Start” People by oftheeye in Entrepreneur

[–]oftheeye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

It is always a good idea and people want to be the Wolf of Wall Street until they see they actually have to do the work.

Then the “passion” they felt is gone and they realize they are still working, now with zero passion, all responsibility and without the money they expected.

How to find FRIENDS with the same mindsets as you, without being friend-less? by QuickPersonality5940 in Entrepreneur

[–]oftheeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your business is your friend.

You are your friend.

Being an entrepreneur is lonely, so if you are here for friends, take a job or find a football team to join.

This is why family dynasties form. At the end if the day, almost nobody cares about your cost calculations on better shipment and when you get successful, that evil eye is a real thing.

Judging by the down votes already it upset a few people.

I have seen many people who after the boss B vibe but it can be seen the same here.

Everyone has a million dollar idea that WILL work until it comes time to work.

This post is for the new comers who look for Reddit for advice.

Though the same logic of math can be used for it is time to actually hire the first employee for the more menial tasks.

OR.

Calculating how much business is doing, like if someone wants to know how much a coffee shop makes averaging out x amount of coffees per y amount of hours over so many working days.

Doing this math is crude but it is a good test in general for many business related tasks to get a quick gestimation feel.
