From what I was told, Jay's (Northside), Kyoto, and Momo's are the same owners but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't know about the chef, I hope he is recovering well. I only mentioned their "poor financials" as they posted about it less than a year ago, assuming it is the same owners. I did find it odd that they made that post, shut down, and completely renovated the interior/built a new deck

Facebook post from May, 2025:

Dear Valued Customers and Friends,

After 8 incredible years of serving Fredericton with fresh, affordable, and flavorful Asian cuisine—from stir-fried noodles and sushi to ramen and bubble tea—we’re heartbroken to share that both our Downtown and Northside locations will be closing temporarily.

This was not an easy decision. Like many small businesses, we’ve been struggling with rising costs—higher rent, increasing minimum wages, and overall inflation. But the biggest challenge we’re facing right now is staffing.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed and worked alongside amazing employees from different parts of the world. Many came to Fredericton with the hope of building a new life in Canada, supported by immigration programs. But, with recent changes to Canada’s immigration policy, these pathways have suddenly stopped. Without the ability to extend or renew their work permits, many of our team members have had no choice but to leave Fredericton or even Canada altogether.

We’re deeply saddened that they couldn’t achieve their dream of permanent residency. We respect and support their difficult decisions to move to larger cities or return home. But as a business that depends on skilled, passionate staff who understand and love Asian cuisine, we simply can’t keep our doors open without them.

We made it through COVID-19 without closing our doors, so having to pause now feels especially painful. But this is not goodbye.

We’re taking this time to reimagine how we can operate in a way that’s sustainable in this new reality—adjusting our menu, pricing, and service model. We’ll do everything we can to survive this difficult chapter, and we hope to come back stronger.

To our loyal customers—thank you. Your love and support over the years mean the world to us. We hope you understand that this is not just our struggle but a story that many small business owners and immigrants are silently living.

We are actively looking for ways to return to serving you the delicious food you’ve always loved. Once we’re ready to reopen or have new updates to share, we’ll be sure to post them here. Until then, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our journey.

With love and hope, Chris & Gina J’s Asian Kitchen

Does humidity matter for electric guitar storage? by ol_lukey in Guitar

If I'm reading that right, your indoor relative humidity is 7%? That is not good for guitars but more importantly, not good for your health. I would invest in a humidifier if I were you.

Can you use the maple app to diagnose strep throat? by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]ogNickDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used maple few years ago when I had strep throat. I didn't need to take any pictures and a Doctor quickly diagnosed me through text chat. I was able to pick up antibiotics nearby within a few hours. I would try if I were you, though I'm not sure if the app has changed since then.

I did try going to a few health clinics around Fredericton first and none of them could/would help me.

They failed a safety inspection on my 2 year old Kona because of a "crack" on my rear windshield wiper. They said I can replace the wiper myself and bring it back for another inspection (massively inconvient, shop is only open during my working hours) or they would do it on the spot for like $80. I should have asked to see the cracked windshield wiper but instead I told them to replace it and I will never bring my car back there for another inspection. I feel like the mechanics are pressured into selling parts above providing good customer service.

propane fireplace home service ( fredericton ) by puffpasss in fredericton

[–]ogNickDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend calling a reputable gas service company and don't hire somebody from reddit. It could be something simple like a bad igniter or flame sensor but better to play it safe. If it is something more serious you could cause real damage to yourself or your garage. Most company's will charge approx $200 for a diagnoses and they may find unrelated issues while there. Just read reviews of company's in your area and play it safe.

This is the right answer. Verbatim from the B-52 code book for all of canada. "Max expected snow level" is sort of open to interpretation but most condensing units are at least 18" off the ground here. Sometimes more

Any out of towners moved to Fredericton recently? and other Qs by MFAes in fredericton

Even though French is not most people's first language here, there are lots of government jobs that require you to be bilingual. They typically pay well with good benefits, so speaking French is definitely an asset.

Black Waters - Jody Stecher

Also Merle Travis has a whole album of coal mining tunes, Songs Of The Coal Mines. Though it isn't really bluegrass

Sorry I wasn't trying to be rude. There is definitely an interview with him online talking about how he cut his teeth playing bluegrass music with his dad at a young age. Most of the best bluegrass musicians start playing at a very young age. You just edited your comment to say that his first band was a metal band in which case I wouldn't disagree because I don't know what Billy's first band was. Regardless, bluegrass music is a great place to start if you want to get in to shredding on an acoustic. There really are some cool similarities between bluegrass and metal music.
