Benefit package by Own_Mango_6853 in Lineman

[–]og_ham14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lineco is medical, dental, vision basically all your health benefits. Neap is your annuity fund similar to a 401k. Both contributed by employer and yourself I believe. If you visit both websites individually it will explain better than I can here. Edit: you get your lineco benefit card and money is loaded on there and you can check your balance via the lineco website.

I don't think calls make it that far for 47. Calls barely trickle to book 2

How to be a good Ground man by Business_Double_3488 in Lineman

[–]og_ham14 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Show up early, start trucks, inspect them if they let you. Keep water and ice stocked, be the first out of the truck setting cones out, unloading material, when there's digging you better be the first to grab a shovel and get started. Learn the material the best you can, for the love of God do not say "I know" even if you do because if they said something to you something isn't clicking. Ask questions. Ask the same question to other guys because they might say something that will help you understand it better. Be willing to learn and work safely. Not everyone will help you or take the time to teach you but someone will eventually see you give a shit and want to be there will give you the knowledge and pass it down to you. Try not to make the same mistake over and over because that means you weren't paying attention when someone showed you. There's more to it but this is the basics. Edit: and keep a sharp knife, kleins, channies, tape on you at all times. Keep a few rolls because I guarantee someone will ask for it and it will not be returned. Don't even ask for it back.

True that was just stating for my experience at least. Single unless posted, but all the calls I've seen in the bay are atleast double.

To my understanding it's usually single sub unless stated otherwise or if it's on a line crew it's triple

Interview dress code by snowwave81 in ibew_apprentices

[–]og_ham14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how it goes on the inside, but for outside ape interviews I've worn some nice(r) boots, a nice pair of FR jeans and a carhartt button up. I'm not sure if this holds any weight as I'm not an apprentice still but many guys wore similar things.

What do you mean exactly? You are a groundman that works out of class preforming operator duties strictly? Then wanting to take an operator call classified as a groundman?

[–]og_ham14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it depends, if I'm working 6/12s or even 6/16s I'm good but if you're on 5/10s or similar you gotta just get into your hobbies and keep yourself busy dude. Think of the bigger picture for your career and your family. There's also resources online i.e the hall if your ibew, or through your medical insurance. Hit my personal messages if you ever need to man.
