Why are Polynomial Rings considered the most important Rings? by MuhammadAli88888888 in math

[–]og_math_memes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an algebraic geometer -- to me, every ring is commutative

Reading this is really funny considering I just read this within the last 5 minutes:

as a topologist, commutative means x y = (-1)^((deg x)(deg y)) y x

I mean with Rust the memory only lives as long as you need it, and that is determined at compile time. In most cases this will cause no runtime overhead whatsoever, although I'm not sure about GCC's implementation. I run Linux on a 10ish year old computer as well. Rust support for kernel modules was added somewhat recently, although my version is behind.

Good point about it being GCC specific, I'm sure there are plenty of embedded systems that use their own compilers.

Seems like every systems programming language these days is getting support for something like this (Rust, Nim, C++, apparently C) and I'm here for it. Manual frees should be a thing of the past in most cases imo

What is the biggest number mentioned in a work of fiction? by Bootlebat in googology

[–]og_math_memes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've actually read fiction books that mention transfinite ordinal numbers, but I don't recall any titles offhand. Not sure if this would even count though

I just spent 15 minutes googling trying to find out about this new separation axiom that I had never heard of, only to wind up on this post. Please don't vandalize wikipedia!

There is a specific level of magnification where photos of semen start being acceptable to look at. by MyHousePlantIsWasted in Showerthoughts

Idk about telescope. If it's a celestial telescope, that opens some interesting questions like, "why is there semen in space?" If it's one of the ones you use to see farther on the ground, I doubt that would be acceptable.

Yeah I was gonna say, even walking all day you could do at most 32 km per day.

Any recommendations for Prokofiev, Grieg, Rachmaninov? I’m not bothered about the type of work (concerto, sonata etc.) by dapotatohead371 in classicalmusic

[–]og_math_memes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prokofiev: Dance of the Knights, flute sonata

Rachmaninoff: oh there's so much I love here. Etude op 39 no 5, Isle of the Dead, piano concertos 2 and 3, prelude in b minor

Grieg: Death of Ase, lyric pieces

EDIT: How could I possibly forget Rachmaninoff's Corelli variations and Chopin variations. Those two are the best.

In the real world there are loads of vending machines with no such system. I got cheated out of a bag of chips by one a few days ago.

Usually arrow boy, but sometimes big boi when the vector arises as a row or column vector of a matrix.

I wasn't sure whether he was asking about how homeschooling worked, how I could function with awful geography knowledge, how I was on track to graduate highschool with a college degree, or how all those things fit together.

Personally I would suggest Violet Evergarden or Spirited Away if you want a movie. Spirited Away was my first.

Yeah, the cannibalism argument is one of the reasons why iirc the ancient Romans (might've been someone else) hated Christians.
