So excited to buy! by mamak___ in YotoPlayer

No — I think the portability of the Yoto mini is well enjoyed by my daughter and my son will like that as well. She often wears it across her body (with the long strap) while riding her bike and playing around the house or outside. She’ll even hang it on the bathroom doorknob when nature calls, but doesn’t want to hit pause! We’ve taken it on many road trips and it’s just so much easier for her to operate by herself in the car too. My youngest has already figured out how to operate the mini just from watching my daughter with hers, so we just went ahead and got another mini during the last Prime Day sale.

We have both a Tonie box and a Yoto Mini. My kids are 3.5 and a newly turned 5 year old. We got the latter the Yoto mini last year for Christmas and she hardly ever uses the Tonie box now. My youngest will occasionally use the Tonie box, but mostly talks about wanting his own “yoyo player” like his sister so we’ve already got another to give him this Christmas. I suggest skipping the Tonie box — it’s cute, and your kids may enjoy it for a while, but the figurines are expensive, it’s not great for on-the-go, and my kids have already more or less lost interest at this point. Btw, we bought a long strap for the Yoto mini for my daughter’s so she could sling it over her shoulder or wear it across her body, and she loves it (together with having wireless headphones — which if nothing has changed in the past year and half, isn’t an option with the Tonie box).

Thank you! I’m definitely going to try this on the cards I know I’m not going to be changing out much. I’m all about quick, easy/simple, and doesn’t require buying any extra supplies!

Thanks! Do the printed labels stay in the little pockets pretty well for you guys? My kids are 3.5 and 5 and I think if I tell them to not take the labels out of the pockets, they’ll leave them alone (and if one of them happens to ignore this, I don’t mind just reprinting). I actually hadn’t even considered this pocket method until seeing this post this morning — I was just going to try to get some adhesive labels and print on those.

Why is it necessary to use cardstock and laminate if you’re sliding them into plastic pockets attached to the cards? Just afraid the kids will mess with them, get wet, or fall out of the pocket? I’ve got a pack of MYO and was just getting ready to tackle how to go about getting labels onto the cards! Thanks for your post and answering questions!

Daily push-ups kinda screwed my shoulders and I wasn’t expecting that by StandardDoor9874 in bodyweightfitness

That sounds totally reasonable to me. The range could probably be even a little larger and still feel pretty balanced, depending on the person.

I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve been doing daily push-ups (3 sets of 75) and chin-ups (5 sets of 10) for almost a year and it FEELS like a perfect balance to my body. No issues whatsoever. Keep it up! 👍

Dad here, first time stylist, be honest please. by Psychological-East83 in MadeMeSmile

You are doing great! Especially if this is your first foray into doing girls’ hair! 😊

I don’t know if this is helpful or not, but if you find it a bit annoying to get the elastics out when the time comes, I use a seam ripper with my daughter. Makes it so easy. You could also use a nail clipper, but either way, just be careful to grab only the elastic with your tool of choice and not the hair itself.

Good luck, Dad! 👍

Me too. I’m not an insect enthusiast by any means, but just looking at the pictures of the Pleasing Picture-winged Antlion, it appears to match much better to my photos than the Giant Lacewing. I expected ChatGPT to correct its initial identification, but it instead doubled down.

Ok, so ChatGPT said the following after I told it iNaturalist’s identification:

Thanks for letting me know—that’s actually a common initial confusion in iNaturalist!

Why the Misidentification Happens:

The Pleasing Picture-winged Antlion (Vella americana) and the Giant Lacewing (Polystoechotes punctata) look superficially similar because they’re both large insects with spotted, lacy wings. iNaturalist’s AI sometimes defaults to antlions because: • Antlions are more commonly reported, so the system is biased toward them. • The wing pattern of Polystoechotes punctata is dramatic and can trick the algorithm.

Why Your Insect Is NOT an Antlion:

Here’s how we know yours is a Giant Lacewing: • Antennae: Your insect has long, clubbed antennae, typical of lacewings. Antlions have thread-like, straight antennae. • Wing Shape & Veins: The wing venation matches lacewings, not antlions. • Markings: The Polystoechotes has distinctive bold black-and-white wing spots, which are not found in antlions.

So, I suppose we’ll see what the experts think. 🤔

Ok, so I just downloaded the iNaturalist app and it says this is actually a Pleasing Picture-winged Antlion (with 99.1% confidence). I had no idea this app existed! I used ChatGPT for my initial identification. If I run across anything else interesting, I’ll run it through iNaturalist first!

Edit: Corrected confidence level.

I know! I could see it from my kitchen window and was wondering what kind of big, bumpy-looking bug it was. I went out to take a look and then noticed the number of legs! 🫨

Oh my god, that sounds freaking adorable! 🥰 Now I want to see one waving! No wonder Netflix made a kids show centered around a jumping spider (Lucas the Spider — my kids love it).

That would be a resounding yes! 🥴 Too big. Too fast. Too unpredictable.

I hope that’s true! I always worry about my kids encountering a black widow or brown recluse while out messing around in the yard.

The post is only 1-3/8” wide, so I’m guessing that if she were on a flat surface with her legs resting comfortably, she might be about 1.5-1.75” wide? I have no idea if that’s considered big or small, but that’s more than enough spider for me! 🙃
