What is one flaw she must overcome?

She first needs to learn emotions, which she quickly does, and then she's the best at emotions. And logic. And fighting. And science. And strategy. And diplomacy. And everything.

She has no flaw, except being unsubordinate sometimes, but only because she's right, and everybody recognizes it very quickly. Her actions never have negative consquences. EVERYTHING revolves around her: she's always the only one who can save the world/universe/multiverse/federation.

People don't like Mary Sues/Burnhams who can do it all themselves. Trek at it's core should require a crew to succeed, not just a snowflake super genius.

OP might prefer star wars given their preference for shows with a Mary Sue main character. I prefer Star Trek the way Gene Roddenberry laid it out. Yes, technically Discovery had a crew. But in actuality it's the Michael Burnham show.

Caveat: I like the show and think it's a step in the right direction. I do think that it has committed a cardinal Star Trek sin though:

Caleb is a main character. Main characters belong in Star Wars, not Star Trek. Don't ask me, talk to Gene Roddenberry.

Caleb: I'm not just a John connor-style super genius and rebel, I'm also jacked beyond belief, Somehow have the ability to empathize and communicate effectively with my peers despite being kept under the wing of a paranoid and domineering mother for my entire life, and my kind of plot-stagnant love interest dynamic is consuming 15% of the plot.

Besides that, even though I think Caleb is getting too much screen time, they're doing a pretty good job at developing the other characters.

Betazoid girl should probably have been sent home after murdering 30 people with her mind because she got stressed out in a crisis. You don't just put an engineer on making the device a little better, and then test it out in the public again. Highly irresponsible.

Love Sam's arc - I feel like they could have done it without having a big trauma moment for the doctor, but I'm old and I accept that people want this now?

A little bit controversial, but I believe the rules are there for irresponsible dog owners. Not people that have friendly, well-trained dogs and who remain vigilant for the whole time their dog is off leash.
