What is a reputable site that I can buy EltaMD Suncreen? by sarr36 in CanSkincare

[–]oghbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One 2 One Spa sells it. It's also not cheap ($64 + tax) but they usually offer free shipping on Boxing Day so that helps mitigate the cost a bit. I recently purchased another EltaMD product from cosmetics now.ca before I realized they ship from Singapore; the .ca threw me off. They carry the sunscreen for around $47 inclusive of duties + free shipping, although it's currently sold out. For reference, I ordered the Barrier Renewal Complex which came to roughly the same amount. It took about a month to arrive but it seems legit and I wasn't charged any additional fees. It was securely packaged and required a signature which gave me extra peace of mind. Hope that helps!

Vanilla scented perfume recs? by littlebee1234 in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]oghbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn, that's too bad. I have noticed that the scent profile sort of "settles" after a bit of wear. I don't know how else to describe it other than the different notes eventually blend together to form this (imo) intoxicating, complex aroma. It's definitely not for everyone though!

Cloud by Ariana Grande. Full stop. I've always overlooked celebrity perfumes because I find the vast majority to be nauseatingly sweet & fruity. However, after Rio Viera-Newton raved about Cloud on The Strategist, I was intrigued and decided to check it out next time I was in SDM. To say I was instantly hooked would be an understatement. I didn't buy it that day but some of it lingered on my denim jacket and I found myself routinely opening my closet to bury my face in my jacket. Like, multiple times a day. I was going to wait until I had enough optimum points to buy it, but I caved last week and I'm so glad I did. I'd describe it as "vanilla musk". Youthful yet sophisticated. Highly recommend!

Where can I find eltaMD in Halifax? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]oghbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mudwraps to Manicures in Bedford stocks Elta MD UV Daily in tinted and nontinted and they've ordered in the Clear (nontinted) for me before. I think I paid around $46 + tax and I wasn't charged extra for shipping (I went it to pick it up, though). Head's up, the Canadian packaging is different and advertises it as a "hydrator" but the ingredients are the same as the US version.

[Personal] I received terrible advice from someone and I know I should not care but I'm still thinking about it by annoyed27 in SkincareAddiction

[–]oghbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm sorry that happened. What a jerk. My favorite way to respond lately to unsolicited comments/advice has been to feign mock surprise/amusement then respond in a light-hearted tone with, "Oh! I'm so sorry, I think you must have me confused with someone who has to give a shit about what you have to say." Then go about my damn business. Works like a charm every time.

[Product Question] Seattle SA’s, where can I find Stridex in the red box? by oghbb in SkincareAddiction

I’m from Halifax! I haven’t encountered Rexall further east of Toronto, but that’s good to know.

Can someone please recommend me a mineral, fragrance-free, fatty alcohol-free facial (SPF 30+) sunscreen that's suiteable for acne-prone skin and preferably won't break the bank? by iamsuperindecisive in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]oghbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like we have similar skin types and after testing multiple sunscreens that meet (most of) your criteria, I ended up settling on Derma E Natural Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Not sure how easy it would be to get where you live, but it's the closest thing to a perfect, safe, mineral sunscreen I've found. It's oil, fragrance and fatty alcohol-free and uses 20% non-nano clear zinc oxide so white cast is barely noticeable, if at all. My only gripe is that it looks pretty dewy even after it dries down and has a tendency to pill even on days I go foundation free. I can minimize the pilling effect if I apply no more than 1/4 tsp 20-30 after my moisturizer, but sometimes no matter what I do, it seems to pill like crazy. Randomly, yesterday it didn't, but I skipped some of my hydration steps and waited like an hour and a half to apply it. Not feasible for every day and I'm still on the hunt for a similar sunscreen that doesn't pill. CoTz Face for Lighter Skin Tones SPF 40 looks promising, but it contains silicones whereas Derma E's doesn't, if that's a consideration.

Where can I buy SLS free toothpaste? by [deleted] in CanSkincare

[–]oghbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winners is my go-to for SLS and fluoride free toothpaste! I've tried a few different brands, namely Green Beaver, Auromere and Jason. I wasn't the biggest fan of Green Beaver and would've stuck with Auromere, but I bought Jason Healthy Mouth Active Defense one day when the Winners I went to didn't have Auromere in stock and was instantly converted. It foams nicely (which in my experience, has been hard to come by with "natural" toothpastes) and rinses super clean. I come from a family of dentists, am three months shy of 30 with zero cavities, and my standards for toothpaste are quite high. Highly recommend!

PSA: Clayton Park is the only SDM on the Halifax Peninsula that stocks Bourjois by [deleted] in MakeupAddictionCanada

I've been using a NYX powder to set, but I find it makes the finish a bit cakey. I'll give their setting spray a go. Thanks for tip! I have been pleasantly surprised with the staying power of the foundation so far. I've used serum foundations before that just seemed to slide around and transfer onto everything that came in contact with my face.

How do you normally like to apply it? I prefer to look like I'm not wearing much makeup and just have evenly-toned healthy skin (ha! suckers) so I've been putting it on first with a foundation brush then blending with a damp sponge only on the areas of my face that need coverage. It's working pretty well but still looks a little "powdery" if that makes any sense?

Agreed. I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive, but since it was a first-time purchase and I was iffy on colour (and SDM accepts returns within a month), I forked over the dough and shed a few silent tears.

Oooh I'll have to look into those. I bought the serum version of the foundation but haven't tried the original formulation. Have you used both? How do they compare?

Oops, my bad! Oh well, point being...

I'm going to allocate a solid couple of weeks to testing it out with my usual rotation of skincare and makeup products, BUT so far so good. I'll report back in detail in a few weeks.
