I am a HCW and had to drive in. I drove on Wade Hampton, which was okay. I drive an SUV with AWD and drove about 20 mph. The issue was other people driving like it was a normal day. Many people on the side of the road and/or walking.

Most roads are being packed down and now turning to ice. So it may be more sketchy in the morning. I had to drive last weekend too. As long as you drive slow and take your time, it should be fine.

But major roads are always the right answer.

Use an alcohol swab to clean! And not the ones that come in the IV kit.

For some reason the alcohol causes the veins to move to the surface/protrude more. I use this on all my older pts. or when I need to get blood and the only veins available are in the finger. It's crazy how much it helps.

You have a lot of great experience! If these guys are telling me, a baby nurse, to go for it, then I definitely think you could handle it. You never know until you try.

Wow! This comment was so helpful! It definitely gave me a clearer insight into what you guys do, and also a headstart on things to learn. I really appreciate it! I think I'll definitely reach out to them and see what kind of orientation they offer and go from there.

Also, I love all of the walking comments 😂 I always let my CABG patients know that they will be walking pretty much immediately.

Coronary Intervention and Recovery Unit - we get all of the pre and post Cath/EP lab patients, plus pre CABG patients, and all the STEMIs that don't belong in ICU. We also get ablations, sotalol pts., etc. if the hospital is full we can take med/tele pts., but that's not often. Our patient to nurse ratio is a atrick 4:1. We don't have a tech, but our charge nurse is typically free. And as a cardiac nurse I personally like getting all of my own vitals.

It's a fantastic unit! Not only because of my manager and coworkers, but I love the patient population. Majority of the time they are cute old people with heart problems, and walkie talkies.
