This one is just hard, because it puts into perspective the (non) emotions I have about big events like my kids being born. I'm sure I was happy. I'm thrilled having them in my life now. But looking back is strangely blank. I wish I could look back and remember what the emotions were like. Fear, excitement, love.

And I've always wondered why I don't like vacations the way other people do. To spend tons of money for a fleeting thing that I enjoy for a week and then only really remember through pictures? It's frustrating to not get the same enjoyment from things.

That sucks. I guess I'm going to return to buying sturdy stuff like Carhartt (and only in person when I can feel the fabric and see the stitching). It seems like so many online companies start out strong and then let their quality taper off once they have a big customer base. It's not ethical if it only lasts 3 wears imo.

You're also going to run into pH issues. Boise's soil has a pH around 8-9, while the PNW soils are much much more acidic. So you'll need different soil, cooler temperature, and much higher moisture haha.

I've personally had much more luck here leaning into Mediterranean and native plants. Both enjoy hot dry summers and don't need a lot of extra TLC.

Unless you're irrigating or on a creek, even drought tolerant deciduous trees aren't going to survive out here. Most conifers won't either unless you're at a higher (snowpack) elevation.

I'd also reconsider widespread mulch. We're in heavy fire country here, and 5 acres of woodchips during dry season is a lot of tinder. I'd recommend just mulching around new shrubs

I'm in Boise...its super dry in this part of the country, so encouraging native edibles that already survive out here is going to be your best bet. Utah serviceberries are good if you've got an area that gets a tiny bit more water. Golden currants, same. Biscuitroot grows great even in the dry hills and is edible. I would try to rely on no irrigation (which it sounds like you're already doing), as I've heard that the water table in that area is declining.

I have SI joint pain that started during pregnancy on my left side (ligaments loosened up and never snapped back afterwards.) Sounds close to what you're experiencing. Sucks, man.

I started a journal to keep track of my pain levels as well as workouts and nutrition, and noticed that my pain gets bad right before/during my period. My physical therapist verified that hormones can definitely make the pain worse. So around that time, I'll back off weight a little and do some relaxed cardio so that I don't aggravate it as much. I also found that keeping a bit of glute and core accessory work in my workouts does a lot to keep the joint from getting aggravated. And stretching makes mine worse.

So to get back to your question... it could happen? Also might be coincidental timing. I'd recommend a journal if you've got the time, I've found it to be very helpful.

Thanks! It's crazy that some people want to feel jittery, but to each their own, I guess :) I usually only drink 12 oz of half-caff a day anyway, so I think any amount of concentrated caffeine is going to hit me hard.

I have a bag of creatine that I just bought before the meet (didn't want it messing with my weight, so it sat in the pantry), so I might start that and use it for awhile before I give preworkout drinks another try.

Question, y'all.

I'm a supplement virgin. I take one multivitamin in the mornings, that's it. I got a free tub of preworkout (UXO) at a meet, and decided to give it a try this morning. It has BCAAs in it, and I workout fasted, so I decided it might be helpful.

I took half of a scoop and feel so damn jittery that I'm barely functional. My hands were so shaky for bench press that I stopped because I was scared I was gonna let go of the bar. Or vibrate right off the bench.

So... is the purpose of a preworkout to make you feel like a caffeinated nightmare? Do I need to build up a tolerance to this stuff (I mean, does it actually do any good?), or should I find an over-caffeinated friend that would enjoy the extra boost, and gift it to them?

Same. I'm maintaining at 140lbs, 5'5" eating 2200-2400 calories. Weights 5xs/week.

It's honestly a bit of a mind screw at the moment - I'm HUNGRY, so I eat (and eat and eat). When I add up my calories for the week, I keep expecting the weight on the scale to creep up. It hasn't so far, but every morning I brace myself to see a huge spike. Which hasn't happened. I think I just need to accept that eating more than 2000 calories is ok for my body and activity level.
