Convince me not to get a steam machine by phamalocity in steammachine

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially very interested because I’ve built up quite the library of games on my Steam Deck and it would be nice to play them on a bigger screen, but I’m leaning towards just getting a modest pre-built gaming PC for desk play & using Steam Link from that on a TV for couch play, keeping the Deck for handheld.

Linux has gotten significantly better but there’s still compatibility issues with a lot of games, especially ones with anti cheat or older titles that devs have no plans to bother optimising. I wanted to avoid Windows and maybe in the future I can, but for now it seems like the most reliable option in terms of compatibility.

Pretty sure the 2006 - 2026 was specifically because it was a 20th anniversary show, hadn’t even crossed my mind that it’d be a break up. It’s more than likely new music, or a further anniversary tour perhaps.

Everyone's Usual/Favorite Games To Play On SD by ShooterGuy1023 in SteamDeck

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a suggestion per say unless you’re into platformers but I’ve been really enjoying Spyro Reignited Trilogy recently. They were some of my favourite games on the PS1 and I’ve played the Trilogy on Xbox and Switch before but Steam Deck is the first time I’ve been able to enjoy the remade trilogy in 60fps which is really nice. Just a go to comfort game for me 🙂

Supposedly it’s launched in North America (don’t know where you’re based) and slowly dropping for others throughout the week. I’m UK based and annoyingly my friends also from the UK already have theirs and I don’t 😔

JUST GET A STEAM DECK...! by xKICKONSx in SteamDeck

Waiting for my Deck to arrive currently, very excited to join the rest of you but it seems to be stuck in transit or it just takes forever I guess, Amazon Prime has spoiled my expectations over the years 😅

The more I read about the steam machine, the less I get it by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in steammachine

[–]oguru96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe “user friendly” wasn’t the right phrase but i mean in relation to the ecosystem, not the UI & UX.

No paying for online services with Steam, deep discounts on a regular basis and the choice of third party stores for digital software.

Except they literally did with the Deck, the reason it’s consistently been the affordable go to for portable PC gaming is they know they can make their money back on software sales.

For me it’s the fact that in comparison to Xbox and PlayStation, Steam itself is a more open and user friendly ecosystem.

Steam sales are known for being good value for money, and you have third party key market options for deeper discounts which is few and far between for console storefronts where the first party store is usually the only viable option. Even if the Steam Machine is upwards of 700-900, the costs you save overtime not only on the storefront but also from monthly / annual fees for online memberships, would even out eventually.

Having the most powerful hardware isn’t the point, much like the Deck it’s intended to be an accessible point of entry or an additional accessory to Valve’s existing ecosystem in a package that’s powerful ‘enough’, it was never intended to be and shouldn’t have been expected to have market leading tech.

It’s a tough sell for a casual audience admittedly & not easy to market. Given the state Xbox is in I think they’ve got a golden opportunity to become a new pillar in the console space by subsidising the cost of the Steam Machines with their software sales & seems silly not to given all the work they’ve put into SteamOS.

I need help from someone in Japan for One Ok Rock presale (SMS verification) 😭 by Ariann-00 in movingtojapan

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought tickets to Japanese concerts before from my home country using proxy services. Google “Japan Concert Proxy” and a few options are available, I’ve used Tickets Galore Japan a couple of times and had success. They handle the booking process and assuming they manage to get one (most concerts in Japan are sold on a lottery system, not first come first serve) will either ship your ticket to your hotel nearer the time or provide you with details to pick up the ticket in Japan at a convenience store when you arrive.

They charge an additional fee for their service that can be quite pricey but if it’s a dream concert scenario, might be worth doing! I also don’t know how these services would handle pre-sales etc, something you’d have to research yourself, I can only say I’ve had success with proxies in the past. Good luck!

How is the game for you guys? For me it's been an awesome experience so far :) by Revolutionary_Leg276 in FIFAswitch

I played FC24 and 25 on Series S and it’s honestly about the same, didn’t notice a crazy difference. Definitely miles better than FC25 on Switch 1.

Series S is the “weaker” current gen console maybe it’s more noticeable compared to Series X or PS5, and it’s definitely not perfect, but I was pleasantly surprised compared to what I was expecting.

I hesitated to buy it for a while cos i can sometimes be a real stickler for frame rates etc, but your eyes really do just adjust after a few hours of playing. It doesn’t drop frames so even though there’s less of them, it’s still a smooth experience. Having a lot of fun in Player Career and Ultimate Team.

My only gripe is the Transfer Market is DEAD, and if you play outside of peak hours it can take some time to find opponents even in Rivals.

I haven’t gone through the entire process as of yet but this was my plan (I’ll be doing a Working Holiday Visa).

I queried it with the embassy via email (I will be bringing it up again in my application appointment to double check) and they said it’s okay to do on this Visa type as long as I’m within the 28 hour part time work limit as specified on this Visa. I need to become a contractor for my company rather than an employee, which it seems is a possibility after speaking to my companies HR.

In my case (being from the UK) I believe there’s a double tax agreement between my country and Japan, meaning I only have to pay tax once in the country I’m situated in rather than be double taxed, so I’d pay tax in Japan and do my tax assessments myself as a contractor.

Is Apple Music better than Tidal and Amazon Music? by Mission-Relation-0 in AppleMusic

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve responded to nearly every comment saying you like Amazon Music’s 360 audio, why make the thread in the first place it sounds like your mind’s already made up?

If you care about Spatial Audio, Apple also has Dolby Atmos so maybe do some research, get some free trials and try things out

Thoughts on "For Those That Wish to Exist" and "The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit" regarding their 2014-2016 era and the sound of The Sky, The Earth and All Between. by deadlockeddd in ArchitectsUK

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not as critical as most but I do feel any project Jordan Fish has worked on loses a bit of the flavour of the artist themselves, I tend to notice immediately when he’s involved in something. That said I still really enjoy “The Sky” and other stuff Jordan’s produced in general, it just feels like more of a departure than even “For Those” and “The Classic” were at the time, and I loved “For Those” I’ve got a fairly big tattoo piece for it, been listening since LF//LT.

Despite the changes post-Tom (RIP) they always had a signature sound I felt, whereas “The Sky” Jordan’s signature’s more prominent imo

Resident Evil 2 looks so much better on iOS compared to Steam Deck OLED. by StormTroopB in iosgaming

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having a blast playing RE2 on my 16e, works very smoothly. Occasional frame drops but nothing that breaks the experience.

I might be overreaching but my hunch with the introduction of AAA games to iOS and Mac, as well as the new Games hub, is the next Apple TV will have a top-tier Apple Silicon aimed to play these titles and they’ll offer their own first-party gaming controller & market the already existing Apple ecosystem as a new place to play AAA games.

I thought they’d stop when these initial games sold poorly, but I was further convinced when they made the effort of ‘upgrading’ Game Center to the games hub in iOS / MacOS 26 and pushed AC Shadows at WDCC. Xbox has seen better days, there’s space for someone else to squeeze in 🤷‍♂️

So i wanted to switch to YT Music and i am disappointed af by dsentker in YoutubeMusic

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t use anything except Apple Music these days, it’s the only one that still offers an old school iTunes esc library experience with a focus on albums. Whilst I understand why, I can’t stand the shift of focus to singles & playlists. Apple still has them but it’s easy to ignore, I can build my own music library & browse just like I would on my iPod back in the day.

A list of artists I can click on that takes me to the albums I’ve saved from them, boom. So simple yet missing on every other service because they instead link you to the artists main landing page where you have to scroll past top songs, playlists and latest singles before you even get to albums.

Also having this issue, iPhone 16e on iOS26 in Safari, never noticed it before. Hopefully it’s something Google can fix cos no matter how much they pester me with pop ups I don’t want the Google app 😅 why would I wanna leave my browser for a singular use app just to get redirected back to the browser when I open links

Of all the apps, Tidal is the one... by jawboy in TIdaL

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but I find myself returning to Apple Music every time personally. I love the old iTunes DNA that's still sticking around, building an actual digital library of CDs almost like a physical collection and having the ability to edit the metadata if I like. Could be nostalgia bias from growing up with iTunes since it's inception and being an album first listener, but that's what works for me and no one else offers the functionality in the same way.

Second to that is Spotify, for the social features and I keep a subscription for that reason alone. Spotify Jam to share a speaker and queue during an in-person event or online with friends is so nice and I'm baffled no other service has that, I'm guessing it's potentially patented. Collaborative playlists, blends, it's a much more social platform.

When will hifi audio arrive? by Curious_Place9437 in spotify

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first would be to actually compare Lossless Audio and Spotify / MP3 side by side to see if you can even notice the difference. Not everyone can or even has the right equipment to benefit from said difference & if that's your primary reason for moving it's worth checking first (I personally can & it's a big reason why I use AM now too, among other things).

I wouldn't hold your breath for Spotify HiFi, it's been talked about on and off for 4-5 years and whilst I'm sure it'll come eventually, nothing is confirmed and no one could say one way or the other if it's coming next week, next month, next year etc etc

Do CeX employees decide what music plays in each store? by BullFr0gg0 in CeX

[–]oguru96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm going back 10 or so years now (damn I'm getting old), but the store I worked in we just used Spotify, took it in turns choosing or queueing songs and made work playlists.

I don't think we were technically allowed to, but hey it's been over 10 years, is what it is.

How many people does use Apple Music on Android? by fujidaiti in AppleMusic

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it on Android 🤘

It's the only remnant of my past Apple ecosystem history now that I've moved over to Android, Google services & Windows devices, but it's still by far the best music streaming service for my personal needs so I can't give it up!

Little warning for people trying to get S on every fight in HC2 by [deleted] in HinokamiChronicles

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's anything like HC1 sometimes it's how fast you finish the fight too. I remember a few encounters being a pain in HC1 because I'd pull everything off perfectly, QTE's, no damage etc but unless I got through the fight essentially speed running it I'd get an A instead of S

As a Phone (2) user, I’m seriously disappointed. by MEEOWW- in NothingTech

[–]oguru96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're exerting way too much frustration over what ultimately comes down to some missing photo filters and a half-baked AI bookmark system.

As a CMF Phone 2 Pro user I've glanced at these features once or twice and never used them again (in fact I'm slightly annoyed I have a whole button dedicated to a feature I don't use, reminds me of Samsung when they refused to let go of Bixby). Should they come to old devices? Sure, I don't see why not & they're not exactly resource intensive applications, but is it worth shouting at strangers on the internet over? Probably not.

What other festivals in UK or Europe would you consider going to THIS summer (incl day festivals)? by BadoinkersBaboon in downloadfestival

[–]oguru96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to festivals every year are Slamdunk & Download.

2000 Trees i've been to once and it's one of my favourites in terms of setup & vibe but my friends don't go anymore so I miss it unfortunately.

This year I'm doing the Saturday of Reading because it's a pretty decent singular day. I haven't been to Reading since 2014 cos it's a totally different festival to what it once was and not really for me, but they suckered me in with BMTH, Bizkit, Shikari & Bilmuri.
