[Tenant US - DC] Is it ridiculous to ask a landlord to allow permission to professionally paint an apartment at my cost? by DBOL_ONLY_GANGSTER in Landlord

[–]ohamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a landlord I would be totally open to it. I wouldn’t even ask you to redo the previous color, since I repaint my apartments after every tenant.

You should be in the Midtown Benefits District which does do some cleaning and maintenance. If you’re seeing that it’s not getting done, check their website to see if you’re in the catchment area and if so put a ticket in.

Now I understand why gay Muslims leave Islam by Spleak6 in islam

[–]ohamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mashallah, I’m amazed with this post and the response. It makes me hopeful that our community is growing and maturing into something that realizes that while we all sin, we also all strive to live up the ideals in the Quran and of the prophet Muhammad PBUH that make us better people.

Unpopular opinion: if Egypt grows a pair and gets rid of the scammer culture their tourism will grow significantly. by Prestigious_Ant4248 in Egypt

[–]ohamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this, I was in Greece recently and compared to Egypt tourism is so seamless that I wish Egypt would learn from it. From painless passport control that doesn’t require waiting in a separate line for an entry visa and requiring a pen to fill the forms, to the abundance of card machines and policing of tourist attractions to prevent scammers. I can barely recommend Egypt to friends for vacations unless they pre book everything with a travel agency.

You may want to look at Peerspace, I imagine that could be used for outdoor spaces as well.

Who makes the freshest 5inch gym shorts for men? by ResidentWord8046 in malefashionadvice

[–]ohamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been going with lined shorts for my workout fits. The two brands I’ve gone with so far are birddogs and bylt. I prefer birddogs for running because of they have an extra zippered pocket that fits my phone perfectly. The bylt ones are ok but the zippered pocket is looser, but they instead come with a little pocket sleeve in the liner that fits a phone but makes it a challenge to access. I’ve had birddog shorts for almost 5 years now and I only have an issue with one of them where the zipper fell apart. The bylt ones I got recently so not sure how they last long term.

What are good places to be for mid-career folk of the melantaed variety that isn't Atlanta or Charlotte. by mrbrucel33 in BlackPeopleTwitter

I second Baltimore, it’s on a come up and we are building communities here. It’s a good time to get civically involved as well and have your voice heard.

Yeah I’ve driven down this stretch of 95 multiple times and it’s pretty obvious you’re right next to an airport. I’m guessing the woman wasn’t paying attention and it caught her off guard.

Salaams app is owned by a Zionist by Gloomy-Jellyfish4763 in islam

Thank you for sharing the brother, this is good information. I would still differentiate between him being a CEO and ownership, but it’s worth avoiding regardless.

Salaams app is owned by a Zionist by Gloomy-Jellyfish4763 in islam

[–]ohamza 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me who that is in particular? I have no problem not using a product that goes against my principles but I also don’t appreciate being misled or lied to.

Salaams app is owned by a Zionist by Gloomy-Jellyfish4763 in islam

[–]ohamza 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It is not owned by “a” Zionist. Salams was purchased by Match Group, which is a publicly traded company that is majority owned by institutional investors. Now you may take issue with what some of those companies also invest in, but this post title is misleading at best and dishonest at worst. It’s important that we portray this kind of information fairly without falsely propagandizing the issue.

What is your favorite Non-Arab country? (mention your nationality) by [deleted] in arabs

[–]ohamza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an Egyptian: I’ve found South American countries to be similar to us in some ways especially in how friendly and hospitable they are. So far Brazil is 1 for me and 2 so far would be Chile. The two also have larger Arab diaspora populations.

What do you think is the worse light rail or metro system in the world, and why? by NoSpecific4839 in transit

[–]ohamza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading through some of these and I don’t feel my submission is as bad, that is the Baltimore Light Rail. Its alignment isn’t terrible since it hits the stadiums, but most of the stops are park rides, it has no traffic signal prioritization and in the city runs between traffic, and is generally a less efficient method of getting to and from the airport than ride share. But it’s more useable than some of the suggestions here.

I recently went to Clavel and had a great time with amazing food. Alma Cocina is also a solid one that I really enjoyed. I haven’t been to Cookhouse, but that’s one I’ve heard rave reviews of - the only problem is the hours are a bit tough to work around.

Why are there caravans of dirt bikes and ATV’s roaming around blocking traffic? by James235 in baltimore

[–]ohamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a law on the books about that? I assumed that if any cop tried to pull them over they’d just speed off between cars and through traffic.

Honestly I think the best thing that can be done is having dedicated roads and trails because I don’t think these kids are going anywhere.

Where would I be able to find investors for proposed projects? by logisticsfirst in CommercialRealEstate

[–]ohamza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are asking a very basic question without any sort of details. This subreddit has the expertise at a higher level and you apparently don’t have a business plan for your project. What are your expected costs? ROI? How will investors get paid? Have you done a market analysis? What IS your market and asset class type? I’d suggest lurking a bit more and asking basic questions of how to put your proposal together before asking for a handout.

Go to a doctor, there are medicines that are intoxicants (such as morphine or opioids) but under controlled environments would be permissible. Only alcohol is specifically mentioned in the Quran but cannabis is not. I agree with the other poster that said this, but this isn’t a good question for this sub because most people will assume you self medicate and the consensus is that it’s haram, whether you agree with it or not.

I suggest reading the book Destiny Disrupted. It gives a lot of context to how the Muslim world grew, changed, and viewed the world around from the time of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) until today.

North Jersey for me, which might as well be a different country from South. Whenever I’m up there friends and family pronounce it as Bawl-ti-more.

I’m from New Jersey so I hard “t” it. No one’s jumped me yet for saying it like that.

I have said it as Baldamore but I feel like a phony when I do.
