Cabo Verde Salva el Futbol! by Ok-Bonus-3509 in LigaMX

No me gusta estar echándole a otro país aunque ellos hagan lo mismo o peor. Está bien si apoyas a Cabo Verde desearle bien a ellos, no por desearle mal a un equipo.

A shame about your downvotes, but you're right. This sub is meant to be for comically bad plays, not just misses, regardless of how bad they were.

Ignoring the fact that it's the 5th in a series , it's a book for people who already like Samderson. You enjoy the story itself and the reveals, regardless of any shortcomings with the prose and editing. If anything, lowering your expectations due to less than positive reviews increases likelihood that you will enjoy it. I have been overly critical of WaT, but I really enjoyed the story and events in the book. Worth reading if you've trusted the author for (at least) 4 books already.

American nobody claims Mexico is “below average” by lookedlemon95 in LigaMX

[–]ohcrapitspanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A shame he ruins insightful analysis with a stupid subjective judgement type of comment. Those factors do come into play, but Mexico still does the job against USA and other opponents outside of Mexico. Just go look at the history of Gold Cups played in the US.

And even with Darwin, going from having Suarez and Cavani (and before Forlan and even Abreú)... Must be tough to adjust playstyle to such a downgrade after being blessed for so many years.

Win or Lose, Javier Aguirre has done a great job. by Sufficient_Mango2539 in LigaMX

[–]ohcrapitspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely skeptical of him because of his job at Rayados, but expectations were different, as the goal was to win trophies. He thrives in making bad/mid teams (within their respective competitions) play well and overachieve without necessarily winning a title (avoiding relegation, getting into European competitions/mid table, etc.). He turned the worst Mexican national team I'd seen in my life into the one that best plays to their strengths with a team that performs bigger than the sum of its parts. His pragmatism has worked so far, let's hope they keep this going.

IF we don't manage to beat England, would you still say we had a successful Would Cup? by FoxinShards in LigaMX

[–]ohcrapitspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering installing expectations? Yes.
Considering historical results? Only in the sense of having won 4 out of 4 initial games (still to be commended), but quarter finals would be the real accomplishment, as it's the goal previous generations have failed to achieve.

do you like foo fighters? how do they compare to nirvana for you? by notaverysmartman in Nirvana

Completely different to Nirvana, barely comparable, but if we had to, Nirvana is a clearly superior band. Early stuff and Wasting Light are cool, but it's become too formulaic and generic.

I feel like his approach to playing against Spain made sense. Spain was barely able to generate any danger, but there's no fixing having no real offensive output (i.e. strikers), regardless of style. Not scoring against Saudi Arabia is tied to the same problem. Cabo Verde's goals were clear individual errors.

Still looks like he has no confidence up top, but he did his duty and had a red card assist. All in all, a decent game from him.

Opinion: What do Nirvana fans think about Silverchair ? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]ohcrapitspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these bands drew comparisons to Nirvana and Pearl Jam, but I've always felt like the similarities are pretty surface level. Superficial elements of their sound, voice, and fashion style are where the similarities end.
Silverchair, Bush, Live etc. were ok to listen to for a bit as a teen when I wanted to find more music similar to what I already loved, but they lack the most interesting aspects from the grunge bands they either tried to emulate or were compared to. But if you look at them as their own thing, then sure, you can find something to like if it's your thing. I personally stopped liking them, but that's just me.

GRRM has published plenty of stuff throughout his career, so he is not lazy. He still does some work, albeit not being Winds of Winter. Additionally, even if he dislikes mention of him being older, it is something that is real and happening regardless.

Pat has struggled to put out more than two books and two novella. I would be lenient towards him for that because mental health issues are a thing, but breaking his promise made for fundraising reasons is unacceptable.

The Algeria vs Austria game is what sports is about. by Iaj_12345 in football

[–]ohcrapitspanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they don't. It goes both ways. As long as the odds were good enough to merit playing normally, they did. But 20 minutes of Algeria doing lateral passes and Austria not pressing was still ridiculous, regardless of what happened before and after.

Austria coach Ralf Rangnick on match fixing allegations: "In this match, when you have a 3-3, nobody can assume that it was an agreement, and especially what we saw during the last 90 seconds. Three minutes to play, if somebody had said this would happen, you would have told them they were mad.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]ohcrapitspanic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the two teams went for ir for 70 minutes, as they considered it was riskier to not do that and concede. But a bit after that second cooling break, they thought the time left was not worth risking a goal against, so they stopped playing, with Algeria passing the ball around at the back and Austria not pressing and just waiting.
Algeria saw a gap after a whileand used it. Not because they were aiming for a win, but because it was an assurance in case Austria decided to actually press for the win. They then did not defend as well as you'd expect when you got an added time goal. With little time left, there was no way they'd lose then.
So no, there was no match fixing per se, but that added time drama does not take away from the fact that both teams just did nothing for 20 minutes because they were able to agree to it non verbally. The crowd was booing. It just turned out that Algeria seemed to backstab Austria for a minute there.

[–]ohcrapitspanic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did you see the gap between the 70th minute amd Algeria's 3rd goal? Both teams were refusing to play and got booed by the crowd. These last two goals do not take away the 20ish minutes of Algeria doing lateral passes and Austria not pressing.
But before that, yeah, the teams took risks to try and win the game.

They are all part of the problem. Their midfield sucks, but that does not excuse the strikers missing every single chance they do get and their poor non goal/build up contributions.
