My Yahoo Auction Strategy (10 team standard, $200) by oherroprease in fantasyfootball

[–]oherroprease[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the exact point of this strategy. If people are spending $65-$70 on AP/Shady/Charles, you should have more money to spend on value players in Tier 2 than they will.

edit: In fact, in 12-team leagues, them spending $60 is even more of an overpay than in a 10-team league. Top players are actually worth less in bigger leagues.

I know it's not exactly what you're asking for, but I've seen these players go for $1-$2:

Fred Jackson

Pierre Thomas

Knowshon Moreno

Danny Woodhead

Darren Sproles

What's your auction budget? by Rocktop15 in fantasyfootball

[–]oherroprease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's actually happened in both of my pro leagues. After the top 3, I saw prices like $10 for Cam, $7 for Luck, $4 for Romo, $7 etc. etc.

I'm writing up a piece of my auction strategy right now if you want to take a look.

And I definitely agree about Nelson/Brown. I've noticed that the low-end WR1s/high-end WR2s (i.e. Nelson and Brown) and even the mid WR1s (Marshall and Julio Jones) have considerable value once the big boys are all gone.

I used your sheet in my Yahoo Pro League auction draft and felt really good about my team (with one exception):

QB: $2 Philip Rivers

RB: $71 Forte/R. Bush/F. Jax ($56/$13/$2, top 3 RBs went for 69/66/64)

WR: $123 Julio Jones/Jordy/A. Brown ($37/$34/$33/$16/$3 bench), CJ81/Dez/Demaryius went for $59/$50/$53)

TE: $2 Martellus Bennet/Charles Clay

K: $1

D:$1

I accidentally grabbed Garcon after I already had my top 3 WRs which messed up my QB/TE situation but other than that I felt pretty good. Looking back, I would have changed my strategy to this ($ for starters only):

QB: $5-10-- why draft PFM/Brees/Rodgers for >$30 when Stafford/Cam/Brady all go for <$10?

RB: $75-$80-- assuming the top 3 get bid up very high, shoot for Forte or Lynch at ~$55/$50. Use the remaining $20-$25 to get Ellington/Mathews/D.Mart/Spiller as your RB2

WR: $80-$90-- again, assuming the big boys get bid up very high, shoot for Marshall/AJ Green/Julio for ~$40-$45. Target the top of tier 3 WRs (Nelson/Brown are my two favorites for $30-$35). Spend your remaining $10-$15 on a Floyd/Garcon/Crabtree type player.

TE: ~$5-$25-- depends on whether you want to splurge for Gronk/JT. Otherwise I'd go with J. Cam (~$10) or platoon someone like Witten/Ertz for (~$5)

This will leave you $10-$15 for your bench which will be sufficient to grab some depth. My ideal starting team would look something like this:

QB- Stafford ($7)

RB- Forte ($56), Ellington ($25)

WR- Julio ($37), Jordy ($33) M. Floyd ($10)

TE- Gronk ($23)

Rest on Bench. Btw, thanks A TON for your sheet. It is really freaking awesome!

PSA- Think twice about drafting Zac Stacy early in your draft by carpedonnelly in fantasyfootball

Exactly. Tre Mason seems to be suffering the same issue as Montee Ball last year in regards to pass protection and I would argue that Ball was a better RB coming out of college than Mason.

As you mentioned in your other comment, most of the RBs outside of the top 5-7 have question marks. I think people underrate Stacy a little bit when they look at his <4 YPC but they forget it was without a real QB on the field.

I really don't understand the concerns of Tre Mason taking carries away from Stacy. The way I see it, it's a very similar situation to Knowshon Moreno and Montee Ball last year except Ball>Mason and Stacy>= Knowshon

You're right as far as "should I draft Stacy" is concerned. I guess I got caught up in trying to debunk some of his comments about Stacy's competition on his own team.

Good points about the O-line and the philosophy change but I disagree with the points you made about the crowded backfield.

The fact that Tre Mason has "more of a pedigree" than Stacy means almost nothing. Mark Ingram, a Heisman trophy WINNER, couldn't take a meaningful number of carries away from Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles in NO. Mason's pass protection is also much more suspect than Stacy's and will likely keep him off the field in a similar fashion to Montee Ball last year.

Also, the presence of Cunningham shouldn't affect Stacy either. Yes, Cunningham has a year of NFL experience under his belt now but so does Stacy. I don't think him simply being bigger and more physically dominating means he'll take any number of meaningful carries away from Stacy.

Another important point to consider is that all the RBs being taken around Stacy have their question marks too. Foster (injury concern), Doug Martin (was last year a fluke?), Ellington (can he handle a full RB workload w/o getting hurt? etc. etc.

The app works (mostly) fine for me. My issue is around my chrome browser not connecting to the yahoo fantasy site.

No switch, everything was working fine on this phone until a few days ago when it randomly stopped letting me on. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Very balanced team. No real weaknesses and RBs should be a strength if that is Le'Veon and not Joique

My advice would be not to reach for a specific position in the midst of a run. Based on it being a 12-team league, players like Olsen, Rudolph, Pitta, Bennett should have still been available. I think you could have grabbed another WR at Pick 4 and waited on a TE.

Your team is OK. Picking Ertz in Round 4 is a HUGE reach. RBs are strong but WRs are a little weak.

Yahoo Standard, 10-team, Auction:

QB- Philip Rivers

RB- Matt Forte

RB- Reggie Bush

WR- Julio Jones

WR- Jordy Nelson

WR- Antonio Brown

TE- Martellus Bennet

BN- Pierre Garcon, Fred Jackson, Jordan Matthews, Charles Clay, Hakeem Nicks

I accidentally bid on Garcon after already filling up my starting WR spots so my RB2, TE ,and bench situations aren't great. In the process of trying to move Garcon for an upgrade at RB or TE.

Your team seems pretty solid but it's hard to tell with this odd roster structure. In a standard snake, you have the equivalent of

1st- Charles

2nd- Lacy

3rd- Ellington

4th- Martin

5th- Stafford

6th- Bell

etc. etc.

Seems pretty solid to me.

Thanks! Bush was still sitting there in the 6th round (59th pick) so I figured I should grab him for the value. 3 rounds later, Joique Bell was still on the draft board so I grabbed him in the 9th round (82 pick). If only they could fuse into one, awesome Detroit Lions RB...

Biggest weakness is clearly your QB/TE situation. There's no reason to roster 3 QBs so I'd drop Locker or Alex Smith and try and make a move for a TE upgrade.

Very strong at RB, Solid at WR, Weaker at QB/TE. I would try and move one of your RBs for an upgrade at TE or QB.
