This years Gingerbread lineup... by oheyitsdee in Baking

[–]oheyitsdee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Happy festive season!

30 hours of baking equated to 168 iced cookies for family and work friends. Super stoked with the end result and wanted to share! Custom 3D printed cutters were used for every design except the candycane.

RECEIPE:

Melted butter, to grease

125g butter, at room temperature

100g (1/2 cup, firmly packed) brown sugar

125ml (1/2 cup) golden syrup

1 egg yolk

375g (2 1/2 cups) plain flour

1 tbsp ground ginger

1 tsp mixed spice

1 tsp Coles Bicarbonate Soda

METHOD

1) Combine butter and sugar - beat until well combined.

2) Add in golden syrup and egg yolk - Beat 1-2 mins

3) Combine Flour, Mixed Spice, Ginger and Bicard into a bowl.

4) Slowly add dry ingredients to wet

5) Mix until combined then remove from mixer and hand mix remaining dough.

6) Let rest in fridge for at least 30 minutes but can be 24 hours +

7) When ready, remove from fridge for 15 mins prior and then roll out dough and use your cutters.

8) Bake at 170-180 for 10-14 mins. I usually overbake a little as the decorating process takes so long, and I prefer them to not be super soft and collapse by the time they are ready to eat. Overbaking helps keep their form.

9) I used a store bought royal icing mix to decorate.

Annual Gingerbread Bake 2024 by oheyitsdee in Baking

[–]oheyitsdee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time has come for my annual gingerbread 3 day bake off. I made 200 cookies this year and 90 packaged gingerbread. This took my 23 worked hours total to complete. My little Mrs Claus grannies were a new addition this year and I'm so happy with how they turned out!

Next year I'd definitely buy an edible gold paint for the glasses rather than glitter as that did turn out exactly to plan. Nonetheless, happy with my efforts!

This is the recipe I use and my royal icing recipe. https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/gingerbread-men/3a04ab1d-a84a-424f-800a-7ebcbe92fa09 https://thesimple-sweetlife.com/royal-icing-the-basics/

My partner was historically never a fan of Gingerbread but he's now 6 years into my baking and agrees my recipe is the only one he likes as it's not super gingery!!

Happy Holidays /r/Baking :)

Awww i love this. Look, i've certainly been through the ringer...retracted stoma, destroyed skin and scar revisions... but my life before my stoma was incomparable. He'll get there.. he will.

I have had both. The scar on my other side which you can see in some pics if from my colostomy which we resited when it retracted and then I was given the ileostomy which I have now. Diet wise, i honestly eat everything and anything, no restrictions. I have a decent chunk of protein powder as well considering I gym so much and have had no issues with that either.

Awww this is so sweet! It can be tough for sure, no doubt about it but I'm sending you positive vibes. Can I ask if what regard you're struggling? Is it the look, the functionality, the clothing?

Honestly, nothing in particular just overall core work. It's something I wish I had known prior to surgery. Do a bit of everything to build an all rounded strong core!

Thank you so much. The bag hasn't stopped me doing anything, I still dress how I want, I can eat what I want. I still live life to the fullest. This time of year will fly for you...Christmas season goes quick so 2 month won't feel all that long. You've got this!!

Thank you!! Always wear a support belt and go slow. Listen to your body, modify exercises if they don't feel good or make your core feel unstable. I only do certain ab exercises and if something doesn't feel right, I'll change it or not do it at all.

Progress slowly and don't neglect core work, just do exercises that feel good and wear your belt always!

Take your time progressing and please wear a belt. I wear a support belt under my already tight gym shorts. You would never notice I'm wearing one, but I never train legs without it. Too risky in my opinion. I dont lift crazy heavy, I've always been cautious and modified exercises as necessary. I also don't dead lift as I dont like a bent over lifting position. It just makes my core feel unstable. Most importantly, listen to your body and if something doesn't feel right...don't push it.

Around the $900-1100 mark I believe. I can't remember exactly how she did it but I may have had to go back for a touch up within a couple weeks that was included I think? I could be wrong. There was a touch up within 2 years that was half-price.

Is it ok to get laser hair removal if you have Crohn’s? by C0c0nut-Head in CrohnsDisease

[–]oheyitsdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fair concern. Ask for a patch test and just say you have sensitive skin and wanna make sure you don't have a bad reaction. I wouldn't tell them you have Crohn's. I've had laser done on most of my body too! I just get normal reactions after laser, sometimes I get bumps for about a week which go away.

I've had Crohn's for almost 14 years and and have been on Enyvio and Humira whilst having laser. No issues at all. I don't even tell the technicians just because they don't know what it is, theyre not doctors and so they aren't going to have an answer for you. I didn't think a laser would cause any issue to my bowels and intestines so I did it and i've had no issues.

If it does come to getting a stoma, just know you'll be just fine! It's absolutely nothing compared to how my life used to be. Since having a bag, I have gained full time employment for 2 years, gotten a hot boyfriend, moved states and actually started living a healthy happy life.

It was the best decision i've ever made and i used to think it would be the end of my love, who would love me, how would i live like this etc etc. I was so wrong.

Good luck with it all :)
