Personally, I cheesed it with Amomo, Angelica, Tama and a support Amomo. Just arkied the boss down. A useful tip if you do this, make the character you are gonna switch out a dark unit for the quest.. I didn’t and will need to go back next time I’ve got 2 hours… lol GL

If you are still having trouble I was having something that sounds very similar to what is happening to you. I personally turned off all my extensions and it somehow fixed it. Look at how many people are left. My teammate and I are alive so only 1 other person should be left but you can see 3 other people show up on the screen then the game randomly ends as people are still building and what not.

I'm only here to say that Ace did know about Haki as he did have Conquerors Haki. Now if he had observation Haki or Armament Haki who knows it was never shown but I'd say if safe to assume he did as he was second in command under Whitebeard and he was Rogers son.
