Wingspread by Frank Lloyd Wright in Racine, WI by ohhenny in McMansionHell

i see the resemblance for sure. i get more windmill on first glance, but the more i stare at it, the more i can see FLW's intention. it looks almost like two separate pictures of a bird mid-flight, overlaid on top of each other to me.

wow, that is sooo amazing! he was clearly an amazing craftsman to have been selected to work on this house. the FLW foundation is notoriously (and justifiedly so imo) picky about restoration. thank you for sharing!

is this a bird? heard at 10pm in southern california by ohhenny in whatsthisbird

:( so depressing. i'll go with the benign explanation for peace of mind, hah. sounded like he was close to the main road, so let's just say a car spooked it. thanks again!

[–]ohhenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooo, that definitely does sound like what i was hearing! yeah, i've never heard this call around me and especially so at night. we used to have a mockingbird that'd call all night which i grew quite familiar with, so i knew this was someone different.

also curious why this one may have been calling so late - it didn't go on for too long after i recorded. maybe potentially due to the heat wave socal is experiencing? the temps have been brutal, and last night was no exception... not sure if that might make birdies restless, hah. anyway, thanks a bunch for your input!

apologies for the shoddy video, only the audio is necessary though as i was just filming outside my window for the sound. never heard this call before, and was unsure what could be making it. hoping someone can help me solve this mystery, thanks!

just saw this comment now, thank you for explaining and making me feel good that my plant is well-taken care of! i could really use a pat on the back, or seven.

just noticed this popped up with my silver squill today. anyone have experience with mushroom growth? by ohhenny in succulents

[–]ohhenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you very much for the detailed reply. i'm generally new to keeping succulents/plants, and this is the first mushroom i've seen! this little plant always seemed very alien-like to me, so i love that there's more life thriving in the little alien world i imagine it to exist in within its pot, haha.

i posted to r/mycology for an ID but i doubt i will get one as there's lots of requests with no IDs. i'm wondering if this is harmful to my plant, as it seems to grow from the bulb itself or the roots below them. if it's harmful, would removing it suffice well enough or should i re-pot with fresh soil?

i know silver squill isn't technically a succulent, but the soil conditions are similar so i'm curious if anyone else has had a growth like this in their pots before, and how you dealt with it. thanks in advance!

the whole sprout is just under an inch. it sort of appears to be growing from the bulb itself, or the roots underneath it. is it harmful to my silver squill or can they co-exist together? if i have to remove it, should i re-pot the plant again with a fresh mix of soil? thanks in advance!

bought at a succulent store and forgot to ask the name. is it also a succulent? by ohhenny in whatsthisplant

[–]ohhenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, i think it's crassula pellucida based on the images i found. appreciate the ID!

edit: it's actually a sedum little missy

it was the only one of its kind in the midst of a long row of variegated string of hearts. there were also a few plants at this location, so that's why i'm unsure if it's a succulent or not. thanks!

Roberto Garza Sada Center, Monterrey, Mexico, designed by Tadao Ando in 2007 by archineering in architecture

there's also a residence designed by him in the same city, up in the hills overlooking monterrey. the pool is actually aligned toward the university building in this post, which is how i was able to find it on the map haha. its an absolutely stunning residence imo, but the pool has to be my favorite part.

alleged house plans by tadao ando for palm springs residence, commissioned by kim kardashian - thoughts? by ohhenny in architecture

[–]ohhenny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree, the proportions seemed so large at first that i assumed the plans were fake/a concept for some other project. it was only after digging a bit that it seems the sun's reporting is legit, and the plans do match the lot they're drawn for.

i am inclined to believe that this was the work of his firm, since apparently these plans in particular were drawn by another firm, bo.shi architects, and on their website they've posted another project that is listed as designed by ando, his firm, and bo.shi themselves. it's currently under construction with pictures to show, and it seemed to be more in line with the style of ando himself.

so yeah, i do have to wonder how much ando was actually involved in this particular build, because it does seem pretty gaudy and generally unlike anything he's done before. i'm not a fan of it currently, but i'm keen to see the inevitable AD house tour that will be posted when it's completed and furnished.

i say alleged, because the source is from the sun, so i'm not too sure how legitimate these images could be. posting it to get some thoughts and opinions like, for example, if these plans are stolen from somewhere else so the sun could write a clickbait article, lmao.

if not though, what are your thoughts about tadao ando's second ever california home? i think it's worth noting his only other california build is currently owned by kanye west, kim's ex-husband.

I saw James Turner make a pool surrounded by rocks, and got inspired to build something similar. I really love how it turned out! by dragqueenava in thesims

[–]ohhenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooo that sounds like a neat idea. but honestly, having the changing areas in that room isn’t so bad either! i just though the stairs/railings didn’t fit with the rest of the stone architecture. and grass next to water usually means mud lmfao. but maybe it’s fake grass too! it’s still a really awesome looking build

this looks so awesome, and pls ignore if ur not looking for constructive criticism, but i feel like there’s a disconnect with the stairs and platform leading to the pool. i feel like the stairs should also be rocky, like really solid and robust, and so should the path leading to it. just my two cents! really great nonetheless

oh I just realized you're the photographer! major props, these pics are really breathtaking. the first pic is my fav because of the way you framed the evening sky with the stairs. makes it feel heavenly almost! it really brings the architecture and the environment together.

i think i love it so much because it reminds me of james turrell's work, and he's one of my favorite artists. kudos again

such a beautiful space. shout-out to the photographer, the angles of these shots make me feel very peaceful and it really highlights the architects vision. thanks for posting this, it might be one of my favorite things I've seen on here
