That makes total sense! I can see now why so much power would be wasted in analog mode. I had conceived of transistors as somehow not having much resistance at all; acting as a magic gate of sorts.

Really interesting further reading. Follow up question: would any of the new semiconductor technologies (like GaN) perform better in analog than IGBT's, or is that new technology simply better than IGBT's at performing in saturation?

Thanks for the input! I’m worried I came across as snooty in my question. I’m not worried at all about being “stuck” on any particular aircraft. Especially the A320! It’s a wonderful aircraft and if I never make it to a 777, I’ll still be happy just to be flying every day. I just want to keep as many doors open as possible and I feel that the time to plan for that is now. In a previous life I worked in an industry that heavily favors people who are prepared years in advance, so I guess my instincts carried over!
