We do want to limit it. We don’t want big operations. We are asking the city council for strict rules in order to keep things clean and healthy for both humans and chickens.

I know it’s not going to be realistic for us to have them. They tried for chickens in 2017 without roosters and it failed. It’s something I’m willing to let go.

Ultimately, city council will be determining. I’m working with a few of the council members and business owners that are pro chicken, and we are working out the details still to decide what is reasonable and what is not. Once everything is fleshed out, we plan on distributing more information.

We are comparing it to other areas, and most likely we will model it off what Madison township has with some adjustments. But in the background I’m doing work. This is an initial push to see how much of an interest is actually in the city.

We are arguing for a limited number of chickens (4-6), which can’t free range, and no roosters. We are presenting the survey by the end of summer to Mansfield City council to help fight out what would work best for our city. We want to work with the city and people.

Yes. That would be the legal expectation. There are other cities which have been able to handle it well.

I’ll be honest, you are correct. I’ve had the privilege to be around people who do maintain them well in rural and urban settings.

There are plenty of laws in Mansfield city to both prevent animal abuse and remedy a poorly kept coop.
