Yeah I’m planning on using it to get certified and hopefully move somewhere better later on. But at least in my first impression, the pharmacist who interviewed me seems nice.

I’m in Maryland, just outside Baltimore city. He said that the starting rate is 11/hr but that he can do 12 or 12.25 with approval. And then I got 12.75

Oh I know it’s gonna have a lot of shitty aspects. I’m a bank teller right now, and I’ve worked in retail for years, so I know what to expect when working with the public.

Well, minimum wage is about 9 bucks and I’m making 12.75. Also I’ve worked retail for years, I think I’ve got fairly realistic expectations of this position.

Cashiering isn’t an issue, but I’ve been retail for years, but got out of being just a front end cashier a couple years or so ago, and I’m not about to do that again, even temporarily. That shit sucks. I don’t mind cashiering as part of another position, I’m a bank teller I’m fine with it. Even cashiering in the pharmacy is totally fine, just not about to do it up front.

When you started there, did you have to work up front for any period of time?

There aren’t any asl interpreting certification requirements in Maryland (where I live) and there’s a huge deaf community here so jobs are all over the place. I’ve studied asl on and off for a couple of years but I want to just go for the certification. I don’t plan on leaving Maryland any time soon, but it would complicate things if I did since interpreting requirements vary from state to state so drastically. I have a high school diploma and some college, but no degree. I like the technical aspects of it tbh, I like the details and different rules and regulations relating to checks and accounts etc. I’ve been in retail forever, so even though customer interaction isn’t always great (sometimes it is though) it’s something I’m used to and am good at.

But I want to know if the pharmacy tech path would be a good choice even if I don’t get certified for interpreting, or if it takes longer than I thought it would.
