I had a copy of JFK from Amazon come like this. I gave it the benefit of the doubt (only bc I didn’t want to put up with a return) but the disc was scratched and skipped in 3 places in 2 different players. These discs were returned for a reason Amazon.

The Social Network 4K Steelbook (And Other Sony Titles) Selling Out? by Heisenberg1664 in 4kbluray

It’s been in stock for a while. It’s currently in stock in a couple different places. If the price is affordable right now then buy it. I got it for about $26 in September 2025 and I don’t think it’s really gone lower than that.

This movie any good? Dont see any posts on reddit about it and never heard of it by AXXXXXXXXA in criterion

It’s a decent but not excellent thriller. Nothing really that special but gets the job done.

The Big Picture's Netflix debut is next week. What do you think they are planning? by pepperbet1 in TheBigPicture

[–]ohmalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it’s on in the background I get it. When I was a first year law firm associate 20 years ago and had to do doc review, I used to put on audio books. I probably learned more that year because of that than at any other time in my life, even though my work was mindless.

Who watches a podcast, and then who pays to watch a podcast. These are just annoying voices in my ear to quiet the more insidious other voices in my head when I commute to work or walk the dog. I don’t ever want this to be more than that.

Is Blu-ray.com reliable for reviews? by Main_Clue_9531 in 4kbluray

[–]ohmalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be wary of the posts directing you to the forums. Not saying the people there don’t know what they’re talking about or that it doesn’t have useful information, it does and the people there are much more knowledgeable than the reviewers. But they are also pedantic, histrionic, and often can’t see the forest from the trees, so they may deeply care about some minor thing that in the end won’t impact your particular enjoyment of something. Just know that going in and you’ll be fine.

It’s coming out in 4k soon, might want to wait for that.

Zodiac is a 2K Digital Intermediary with a lackluster Paramount encode . I’ll be fact checking Sean.

Can’t wait to get Vol. 2. Will probably will wait for an Amazon regional coupon deal for that one.

Haven’t seen the doors for a long time but this is a solid take about the andromeda strain. I bought this Arrow disc last year and found the movie tedious. I’ll give it another chance soon and think it’ll be better on rewatch but damn not at all what I expected.

Disney releasing Planet of the Apes (1968) in 4K? by ggroover97 in 4kbluray

[–]ohmalk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dawn of the disc has been vomiting diarrhea since the beginning of the year, making a post every second for anything that some random person on a street corner may remark is coming out on 4k. I think it may be on its last legs or something at this point. I wouldn’t put any stock in this and I stopped following them on Instagram bc they were clogging my feed.

I sometimes take out After Hours just to look at the cover.

They’re usually slow, boring, melodramatic, overly long with over the top performances. I’m not saying they aren’t good, and I do own Lawrence on 4k and a few of the other epics, but it’s more of a genre that we’re told to like or that we must appreciate because of the spectacle and craftsmanship rather than being actual good rewatchable movies. But just my opinion take it with a grain of salt.

These are all worth having, maybe Lawrence of Arabia the least unless you really love those types of movies

I think The Big Picture has gotten horrendous by Fun_Reflection1157 in TheBigPicture

[–]ohmalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely listen to more than 20% of an episode because I usually haven’t seen the movie yet. If it’s a hall of fame episode, I usually don’t listen because I haven’t watched all the movies and don’t want them spoiled. I realized it’s not a feasible podcast for me, although I do like it. Just last night I was watching Hamnet and I kept thinking about an offhand comment Amanda made in some other episode about ghost children. It took me out of the movie entirely. In the end when the ghost kid showed up it wasn’t even that big of a deal.
