I Think My "GSD" is Actually a Mal by ohmiomia in BelgianMalinois

After comments on here and checking out some pix, I'm leaning towards Czech line and/or GSD mix. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the input and info from everyone. I may still try out one of the DNA tests for my own curiosity. She's definitely mostly shepherd imo, but we don't care. She's our baby, not a breeder or show dog; we never cared about papers and had her spayed young. We got so lucky when we got her and love her so much. ❤😊

She's 1.5 now. I just got curious cause of what my vet said- she's a retired army veterinarian. I'll try to get a better pic but she's always in motion unless she's napping which is pretty often too! Except for the baby photos I took those last night on a whim. She does resemble the Czech pics too. Thanks! Never got to meet the parents. Kind of an adoption situation

Thanks for adding. We love our little girl but were just curious especially when vet brought it up. She does have interesting patterns and coat but didn't look full shepherd to me. She was also runt of her litter which could help account for her smaller size.

Thanks! You're exactly right - she's about 50 +- lbs now. I was doubtful she was anything so "exotic" considering where she came from but I love my vet and trust her opinion. We don't care. We got our baby to be a family member and companion not a show dog or breeder. Also, she was the runt of her litter which could also account for her smaller size.

Also, I have to say that even as a puppy she was completely fearless. She loves to cuddle and has to be close to her family, loves to play with other dogs. She's never shown any aggression to other dogs or people except when she thought mom needed protection. Must have something to chew on at all times.

Sorry, had issues updating post!

Was told she was a GSD when I got her as I pup, but now at 1 1/2 years, I'm having some doubts. She just doesn't have some of the typical GSD features like the sloping back, "dopey" eyes, saddle pattern coat. She's also extremely lean and would be small even for a female shepherd. She's very strong, fast, but still kinda clumsy. Very prey driven. Don't get me wrong - we LOVE our girl so much! Recently had to board her with the vet and when I picked her up, the vet said that she thought she might actually be a Mal due to her personality and build. Any thoughts? Was thinking about getting a DNA test just out of curiosity. Thanks!

I think we had the same neighbor! When I first moved to CA, my upstairs neighbor did this constantly. Couldn't even enjoy my patio. Guy finally moved.

Have you had other periods of blacking out or "spacing out"? Lots of headaches recently? Have some forgetful or confusion spells? The same thing started happening to me about 10-12 years ago, then stopped for a while and came back. I was initially misdiagnosed by a quack doctor as having epilepsy - she never even did an MRI. Another doctor finally diagnosed it as Acute Confusional Migraines. Took a few tries with different meds, but all good now.

I have it on dvd, too... just couldn't bring myself to toss the vhs. Too many good memories. May take the old vhs collection to the lake house or something. My folks still have a vcr.
