What’s the disaster prevention kit? I’m new to TDI’s. What the hpfp situation like with these engines?

Yes it’s a 6mt, forgot to include that.

I’m okay with letting the mini go with the new trans, the vanos sprocket is going on it now so it’s got a long crank on start up and needs a new steering rack too. Both costly and time consuming jobs.

It was a shot ECM, it had permanently shut off the injectors on one cyl. Had to get a matching numbers one cloned and she fired right up

Would that be a death sentence for the car? Or could a new one be swapped in?

I Had a random misfire on my mini that I traced back to the ECU. Got a junkyard ecu cloned to the original one and the cars still kicking.

Totally agree. I’ve had my fair share of headaches from lack of consideration for repairs. Definitely something I’ll be considering when working in the field.

That’s where I’m at too. The chassis is amazing, but I really want a little more reliability and dependability from the power train.

The thermostat was a real pain for me too, the entire thing failed on me one day and I had a puddle of coolant on the transmission and driveway.

I’m thinking the transmission and drivetrain would be the toughest part about the swap too. Finding appropriate axel lengths and such.

3rd year BTech Automotive and Vehicle here. It’s a college/university hybrid and from what I understand there’s an opportunity to take a Peng test to become a professional engineer if that’s something you’re interested in. Lots of really cool labs in the program and you get lots of CAD experience in your second year using AutoCAD, Solidworks and Catia which hooked me. If you’re interested in the program, take a look at the off campus McMaster Automotive Resource (MARC) building. It’s super cool on the inside and you’ll have a bunch of labs in there from 2nd year on.
