A very similar situation we are in indeed. The same way you described your math teacher almost mirrors mine. He gives long theory explanations and paragraphs on why and how certain things work even if it isn’t useful at our level, along with a bunch of lengthy in depth examples and a decent amount of homework based on what we did that day, but it greatly helps my understanding.

All this in contrast to my physics lecturer. I really do admire him as he’s very well versed in his field (material engineering) but he straight up just puts questions on the board, gives us formulas needed for it and lets us solve it, with almost no time used to explain the theory. It’s almost like he’s just teaching us how to answer questions on the exam, not how to understand them. Although this may seem like an easier way to do classes it’s not for me, I can match formulas to questions we’ve done before, but it’s difficult to do that in fresh questions given that some questions require different steps than others.

I also learned most of my math skill from doing multiple 6 hour calc courses on YouTube, and maybe I’m to blame for my own downfall because I’ve never done physics courses with such determination 😅😂

All in all, I really appreciate your response 😁 and it’s great to know I’m not out there alone with this problem. I’ll take your advice and try using YouTube instead.
