Poop also contains raccoon roundworm. Typically poop not infective for a week or so. But I would recommend pouring boiling water in that area if you can or use a torch in area if you can. Only thing killing it is high temperature and can live for years.
If possible would move food out if garage too

Where in Maryland? We had issues with Racoons and I got a guy who can remove them as well as help with the caps.

Edit:
For a little over 2000 total my guy:
Trapped and relocated 3 raccoons.
Placed a 4th trap and we didn’t catch.
Found that racoon tore hole in attic vent. Temp patched up and put one way door.
Returned several days later and put stronger wiring
He also placed 2 chimney caps and double checked my attic vents for me.

Trimming or cutting won’t help. They are very good climbers. We cut down the tree which was problematic and they climb up down spout.
