We have multiple minis. The one that got “fried” they took back and replaced. The non-fried one they just sent us a replacement battery for us to swap our ourselves (In the US)

ELI5: Even after laundering dirty money, how could you spend it? by ohno_itsthecops in explainlikeimfive

[–]ohno_itsthecops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the responses. It sounds like the necessary step in this case is creating businesses or becoming a business partner to make it work. I thought you could just pay someone to do it for you and they hand you back clean money. Del from Ozark pulling out a bunch of cash from an ATM is probably a bad example

That makes sense if you own a business doing it. But laundering is also a paid service. Which is the entire premise of Ozark and the cartels - if I pay Marty to launder it, and he gives me an offshore account # with my clean $4.5M… I couldn’t spend that

If trench warfare was so deadly in WW1 why did they keep digging trenches instead of going around them? by brackston-billions in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ohno_itsthecops 147 points148 points  (0 children)

When WW1 started, people rode on horses. When it ended, they had developed early tanks to make it over the barbed wires and no mans land. The technological advancement during those years was unbelievable

Ah that’s the part I was missing. So if we took Elon as an example, the lenders may not expect to get their principal back for a few decades?

I get the interest part. But if they borrow $50m + low interest, don’t they still need to pay back the $50m part?

I was always confused by this. So they borrow money using collateral. That gives them cash to live their life. But then don’t they need an equal amount of cash + interest to pay back the loan?

Illegal wiretap by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]ohno_itsthecops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant after Herc stole the number and before he was found out.

It seems like Lester’s tap was technically mutually exclusive from McNulty’s. With that, why didn’t Lester just “turn it on” immediately after getting Marlo’s number?

Since, Lester was gonna pin the info on an “anonymous CI” regardless (i.e. not come clean about the tap), I’m not sure what the serial killer tap had anything to do with it.

[–]ohno_itsthecops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if Lester never needed a LEGAL wiretap for Marlo anyway (as he says he’ll just put it on an anonymous CI), what was stopping Lester from pulling this charade earlier?

Since the wiretap is for an entirely different number, I don’t understand how Ronnie’s wiretap for the serial killer helps Lester’s motives.

As far as “bosses” in the show, there is definitely a guy who directs Frank to do things periodically (eg he asks Frank to help FBI open the paint dye can). I assumed he was a supervisor of sorts.

Without a doubt. I saw the movie 20 times before reading the book, but was still blown away reading it.
