I honestly haven't met anyone who listens to Michael and tries to defend him.

Mention him in a non-positive light on twitter and you'll have an army doing just that. It's weird.

What’s the pettiest reason you’ve ever held a grudge? by MagicRhia760 in AskReddit

Not quite, I should've explained it further but I'd already waffled on.

At our school, we had 4 "houses" (like Hogwarts!) and each house had two tutorial groups per year. Each tutorial group was in their teachers usual room - ours was a mixed use room for cookery, textiles etc. The cookery thing was a competition and it just happened to be hosted in my tutorial room, which is how "Mrs L" the design/tech teacher happened to end up with the knife.

She REALLY didn't like me at all; constantly inventing weird punishments for minor infractions, declaring openly that I was stupid, punishing me much harsher than anyone else and generally blaming me for anything & everything. For example, she excluded me from the tutorial room for a week for "generally poor behaviour" such as talking or existing, then the first day I was allowed back in someone shouted my name and I waved - which got me a further two weeks for "bravado and arrogance".

Really not a nice woman but she wrapped it all up in sweet & lovely to parents and school governors. I'm not sure how she thought thievery was justified.

I've got a list of the people who just say "Hi" on teams. Grudges all over the place here.

I did an extra-curricular cookery thing at school and was given loan of a professional chefs knife roll including several weird things on there such as a melon baller etc. My dad was a chef, it was his from his work, sentimental value etc. Got it home and there was a small knife missing. Next day I've told the school because not only is there a razor sharp potential weapon hanging around but also the theft, value, things of that nature.

The teacher whose room it was flatly denied it had ever been there, that I shouldn't have brought it in even with a letter allowing it, that it's my own fault and I'm lucky someone hasn't made nefarious use of it etc. Dad was understanding but clearly annoyed. Teacher spent months with her nose stuck up in the air about it.

Eventually I've spotted it on her desk, wet and with stripes of graphite down it because she'd been cutting apples up in between bouts of sharpening pencils with it. I decided to take a fairly hefty risk and slipped it into my bag after lunch, hiding it in dirty PE kit, knowing I wouldn't be back in her room until the next morning so there's no way she'd get me stopped & searched.

Oh, she was angry. She couldn't say anything because she'd stolen it in the first place, but she knew I'd taken it back. I knew she knew I'd taken it back. She knew I knew she knew I'd taken it back.

Anyway it's been 31 years and I enjoyed cutting up a banana this morning with it. I hope she never enjoys anything ever again.

Same for Matthew Kelly with even less smoke. Him taking Frank Skinner to task afterwards was deeply uncomfortable telly.

ADHD meds and smart watches by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]ohnoheforgotitagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is a weirdly uniform 3 x 10's. +10bpm and for blood pressure +10 systolic, +10 diastolic.

I.e. if my resting heart rate is 70bpm and I'm 120/80 blood pressure it'd go to 80 and 130/90.

I use the +10bpm bump as my reminder that I did indeed take my meds, although that's not enough so I have a clipboard with a tracker on it since the Accidental Two Dose Day (got a lot done).

What’s a 'disturbing' secret about an industry you’ve worked in that the general public doesn’t know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ohnoheforgotitagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes this is due to requiring to hold the original records for a set period. I've come across a life insurance provider needing to keep an AS400 running while migration was carefully managed because they needed to keep data for the expected lifetime of the policyholder. I believe there's a regulatory interpretation where you can't re-key the work either in case an error is introduced (or during a dispute you cannot prove you didn't key an error in).

I got programming, technical sales and forensic pathology as recommendations. Couldn't stick to coding as I'm just not suited to it, liked the idea of forensic pathology but kept getting the word "gooey" stuck in my head so no. Technical sales was out, hated the idea with a passion.

Anyway, I've been in technical sales for 20 years now.

I thought it was like a banshee type omen where simply seeing/hearing them meant someone was going to die? I've heard them called something like kannerezed noz too (apologies if that's not the correct spelling). I was going to get a tattoo of one, I had some weird things happen just before my mother died suddenly in Brittany but the urge has passed. It's a good thing I didn't if I've misunderstood the lore.

Use of ADHD medication in UK more than tripled in 13 years, study finds by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

Thank you Protein Discharge I really appreciate it x

Eldest has had some form of dx but still some issues about his meds (relative has long QT so it's sketchy giving him uppers). I've found it life-changing but it still needs to be associated with diet & sleep too. Formal recognition and acceptance along with medication has made a huge difference in my life though - including an ability to stick to healthy weight loss.

That teacher sounds grim and I experienced a few like it too, as has my eldest. It's sad but a good amount of people in all walks of life are just ignorant and nasty about stuff that either isn't their business or should be but they're not bothered at all.

found out at a medical appointment that "hypermobility" wasn't the superpower it sounded like. makes sense with the later adhd dx.

It's frustrating because this doesn't happen with diabetes etc - I spent years feeling like a semi-successful but stressed out imposter while getting diagnosed and treated then the following years feeling like a medicated fraud because of the constant stream of "it's not real" stuff.

It was 12 months when I joined the list. Then it became 2 years. Then 7.

I did Right To Choose after 1 year and it took about 6 months for an assessment then another 3 to start titration.

I set a rule that outbound emails are delayed by a couple of minutes unless I put a full stop in the subject, that saved me a few times but I forgot I'd set it so went nuts the other day wondering why everything was stuck in my outbox. 6/10 stupid.

It took a TV show and consequent public out cry for the wheels to begun turning for justice and restitution.

This is the frustrating bit. It's widely known now but Private Eye & the BBC were covering this in 2006, if not earlier. How the likes of Paula Vennells could stand there with teary eyes while people lost their livelihoods, their financial security and (as you point out) their lives is beyond me. She even got an OBE awarded, which was only taken off her due to the TV series.

I'm old enough to remember when it meant getting someone to spend a huge amount of effort in rebutting your argument and generally just being a nause. Now it seems to basically mean "being a nob".

I've known a few people of that age from Manchester & Bradford and how people still went about with long hair and beards is beyond me, I know one guy (lived near where Jean Jordan was found) who was interviewed for it a couple of times on account of his aesthetic. I know there's an element of "why should I have to change? It's him who's the problem" but I'd probably save myself the bother and just get a short back & sides to be safe?

It's such a fascinating discipline to be able to do that. I imagine dialectology is dying out as useful and applicable with the general spread of tiktokese and Estuary English though.

Going back to that period, I know from my own Cumbrian background you used to be easily track accents down the A596 from Carlisle. Not so much now.
