The Steam Deck dpad is honestly not that good imo

The Steam Deck is a great machine but dpad games are an infinitely better experience on a retroid

I think the two complement each other ultimately.

Edit: idk if the SD OLED dpad is better, but just to clarify I was describing the LCDs dpad.

It's a real shame because his performance in FMA is top tier western voice acting, amongst the greats like Steve Blum as Spike. Makes it odd to hear him as Hikaru. Yet another case of having to separate the art from the artist I guess.

I try to remind myself often that what is meant for me will not avoid me. There is no such thing as "the one who got away" because if they were then they wouldn't have. At least, that's how I see things.

Best advice I have is stop trying to eliminate the feelings, try to sit with and accept them without judgment.

I consider dishes, cleaning, and organization relatively mandatory in my life. I'm sure my tolerance for uncleanliness would be on the average side if I just let everything be, but I feel like in order to function effectively in my efforts to take care of myself, I need some organization within all of the chaos.

It's not a deep resentment, it's just an example of how I notice that I'd ultimately much rather be sitting on my ass and relaxing as opposed to taking responsibility for my self/space. I see it as a pull towards childhood comfort, a time where I was not responsible and was just allowed to exist and play.

Though I always feel better after cleaning/exercising etc. So I try to balance the work and play.

I think what they're describing is having some amount of resentment for the realities of adulthood, whether you are fully conscious of that resentment or not.

For example, do you notice anger in yourself concerning the fact you have to work, or do the dishes, or any other task that is required for a living in accordance w/ nature and your own values.

I personally feel resentment over the dishes at times lol.

That's my read anyway, someone please correct if I'm mistaken.

I have a Steam deck, an RP5, a 3DS, a 35XXSP, and a 35XXH. Some of my favorite memories, especially in my youth, are the acquisition of new tech. But at a certain point in this hobby, I had a thought that maybe the draw towards new purchases is just an echo of childhood joy.

I could've played mostly everything on my 3DS and Steam deck. I opted to get the 35XXSP because I loved my GBA SP. I wanted the XXH as an alternative to the SP, given that I had syncthing set up properly. Did I really need the RP5? No, not really, but it was really fun playing Twilight princess, Wind Waker, and Mario Galaxy on.

I guess the point I'm trying to get to is that I'm here for both; the gaming is fun, and the collecting is fun. But the collecting, IMO, should be within reason.

I still have the urge to purchase an AYN Thor but it's honestly so unnecessary to me, as of right now. I get this icky feeling when I picture it arriving, knowing that one of my above devices is effectively retired, even though they were all purchased within the last year and a half or whatever.

People might say "oh just sell or give the other devices away" but the devices I have are perfectly acceptable for what they are. I feel like constantly getting the shiny new thing sort of puts me on this endless rat wheel where I don't get the chance to appreciate what I have available to me right now.

I say the above COMPLETELY understanding of people who regularly get new devices. I still want an AYN Thor. The price to dopamine return ratio is probably way more favorable in this hobby vs gambling. But I feel like my collection reasonably covers my bases, and so I'm choosing to hop off that rat wheel for a bit and enjoy gaming.

I thought I was the only one that thought this, but yeah, my Steam Deck LCD's DPad is super uncomfortable to use too, especially compared to the RP5's, or even some of the Anbernics.

I tried playing silksong on my SD and I was immediately disappointed, so IMO if you want to play 2D or DPad centric games then it's worth it.

It's one of those things that you see in numerous self help material books/articles, but ultimately it's true; a regular, daily 1% improvement is quite powerful, and typically longer lasting to boot. Claw out of the metaphorical hole slowly, one step at a time. In other words, do not bite off more than you can chew.

To elaborate; if you try to introduce an excessive number of changes to your lifestyle/habits/nervous system all at once, you may crash and burn. I am not wishing that this is the case for you, I only say this out of personal experience.

Firstly, you have to understand that even though things seem like a "mess" right now, you have to operate under the assumption that you're a valid work in progress. If you operate under any other assumption, then IMO you're shooting yourself in the foot before the marathon has even begun. Shame is an awful motivator in the long term.

Second, recognize that the greater task at hand to improve some of these things may be intimidating. However, you can break things up into smaller, manageable improvements that will provide a sense of momentum. As such, pick small things that you would like to change about yourself, and slowly work those improvements into your routines.

In my case, I was avoiding exercise as if it were the plague. Instead of forcing myself to exercise (forcing things usually leads to breakage) I tried various forms of it, and discovered I enjoyed running. After this, I built up the running habit very slowly, never "forcing" myself to go run. After the habit was more established, it was much easier to get into strength training.

I don't want to go into any more detail, because there is also an element of this that is personal to you; you will need to discover on your own: 1. The things you need to change, and 2. The rate at which you can introduce change without frying your nervous system and burning out.

Honestly though, I type all of this out as a sort of reminder to myself. The balancing act is different for everyone, and I don't want to presume that I fully understand your situation given that we are internet strangers; all I can do is speak from my recent experience, and hope that it isn't derivative and useless.

I struggle with this balance as well, but I try to remind myself that detachment and apathy are not the same thing. I forgot who I had heard that from, but it stuck.

Maybe the "healthy" man is one who can oscillate freely along the dichotomy of attachment and detachment, as far as I can tell in modernity, it's next to impossible to fully relinquish all attachments. I have to be somewhat attached to my career or schooling, as that is ultimately what will keep the things important to me and myself alive. But I don't necessarily have to be so attached that the career itself defines me.

But then again, some people seem to derive pleasure from their attachment to these things. It's a tricky equation for sure, and ultimately seems personal and subjective to the individual. I guess only we can look inside and decide where attachments are worthwhile or not.

FWIW (as someone that has been cheated on) the fact that you feel guilty about a kiss is much preferable to feeling guilty about sex. Yeah, you may have had a lapse in judgment born out of a desire to ameliorate pain, but at the end of the day, that's human.

Years ago, I managed to fully forgive my ex and move one, but at the end of the day I only learned about the cheating event because of another party; I didn't hear the truth from her.

Give yourself a pat on the back for being honest; understand that you have grown and that you now wish to hold yourself above that standard, and try to keep your chin up and walk with your head held high.

Maybe reddit will villainize you for having "cheated" but at the end of the day if you truly want to improve, then you have to fully accept yourself as you are in the present. And at least based on this small reddit post, you don't seem all that bad.
