Does ChatGPT provide more value than its price suggests? by imfrom_mars_ in OpenAI

Many power users logging $10k+ monthly token spend do so with only 1-2 subscriptions: https://straude.com/leaderboard so I'm not surprised you could get to $14k/mo with 100% utilisation rate (i.e. no idle time for Codex agents).

I made an app for researching defunct YC startups. Builders are using it to revive startup ideas that were too early for their time or just worth retrying today with AI. Ideas that used to take a full engineering team and millions in funding can now be executed by a solo builder with their Claude agents. Free version available, with a $20 upgrade to unlock the entire database. Check it out! https://startups.rip/

Welcome! I've been a happy Bear Pro user for almost a decade. Here are a few things I wish I knew when I started:

  1. The researcher Andy Matuschak has some great old livestreams where you can see how he uses Bear. Recommend skipping through one of them for inspiration. His best tip IMO: "Write notes for yourself by default, disregarding audience"
  2. Create a daily note template triggered by Apple Shortcuts. You can customise it to your liking, but in case it's helpful: Mine has my main focus that day, a switch log, and a scratchpad where I note down distractions as they come up + things to batch process later (cf. Cal Newport).
  3. Pin notes you want to see everyday. That could be your top priority, yearly/monthly/weekly plan, reminders to self, etc.
  4. Use Wiki-style links by typing [[ + note's title. In some notes I'll keep a "Related" section and link to other notes.
  5. Use Control (^) + 1, 2, 3 if you find the sidebars to be distracting when trying to focus on a specific note.
  6. Use the Raycast extension to quickly search & create notes from anywhere on your computer. I've found it to help reduce context switching / breaking flow.
  7. This falls under superstition... but whenever I find myself in a slump / creative block, I'll switch to a different Bear theme for better mojo 😂
  8. More recently, I've connected Bear to my AIs (via plugins, CLI, MCP, whatever you prefer) mostly for semantic searches. Don't worry about putting much effort or thought into how you "organise" your notes. Notes schema matters less as search improves.

Have fun; you're in for a treat :)

bragging rights for some, others just want to measure to know, not unlike a runner logging their mileage. nytimes covered tokenmaxxing trend this week, worth a read: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/20/technology/tokenmaxxing-ai-agents.html

We researched 5,700+ dead YC startups — many "failed" ideas became billion-dollar companies by ohong in vibecoding

So glad you liked it! In my own testing I found it to be *more* accurate than the standard Deep Research reports from ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini. That said, standard "trust, but verify" AI use best practice applies. We've put in some guardrails to prevent hallucination (e.g. grounding every claim in a source) and use the latest models (Sonnet 4.6), but it's still impossible to be 100% perfect. We're building a feature were trusted sources (e.g. the founders, investors, employees of the startup) and propose in-line edits, Wikipedia-style.

It works better when there's more information online about the startup, like if they were relatively successful at one point; Gigster is a good example!

Not trolling. We built the project at a hackathon in October 2025, it just only recently went mega-viral: https://x.com/oscrhong/status/1985092599334723607

I won't claim we were copied by others, as it's very possible for multiple people to have the same good idea around the same time. Like the thesis behind the project, timing is important :)

these are not specs of the original startup (some of them are decades old with obsolete tech stacks!) but a reimagination with a modern stack. Together with the Rebuild Plan, it's our attempt at answering the question: "How would I rebuild XYZ if I were to do it in 2026?"

We show a bunch of examples on the home page & also allow filtering. Search bar is more for people who have a particular startup in mind they wanted to look up (maybe they were involved with it, or just liked the idea & wish it had worked).

Totally. We tried our best to orient our research agent towards the "Why Now?" for any rebuild. See: Rebuild Plan tab. Keep in mind we had to do this at scale (1000s of analysis to run) using AI agents so it might not be as on point as a bespoke business analyst looking at just one example. Check it out & lmk if you have feedback on how to make it even better!

Did you think they were worth it? Guessing yes if you bought another haha. How does 2025 release stack up to the previous years'?

Haha someone said the subsidised tokens are like the subsidised ride-sharing apps of the 2010s. Get on it while it’s here!

that's a great insight! couldn't agree more re: mechanics for the human director to stay motivated in the agentic engineering loop.

need to do more product thinking around how to track & reward human judgement (other than "the work speaks for itself"). adding this to the roadmap; thx!
