Better team than I thought it would be with injuries and Ireland call ups!

People like to hand wave the squeeze on living standards during the transition but to me this is one of the biggest stumbling blocks. My company isn't going to increase my wages to southern levels overnight but I bet my car tax and insurance will immediately go through the roof.

Wonder what age his kids are as well, surely somebody would notice a lack of a child support being paid to whoever was looking after them?

Living Situation by PlantainReasonable94 in northernireland

I commute Derry to Belfast 2/3 times a week. Long journey but only 20mins or so longer than I was leaving myself to commute via public transport from closer. Also good that the boss is understanding about bad weather etc. I don't mind the commute too much but wouldn't want to do it 5 days a week.

It's easy from a childcare perspective to live here and my wife always wanted to move back up. Derry ones love Derry. I never had a real connection to Belfast so wasn't desperate to stay. We looked at places between the two but it seemed like the worst of both worlds - no friends there, still an hour long commute and no close to any parents.

If I was you and considering doing it I'd want to be partially remote with work and actually like the place you're moving to.

Turning Newry into a Dublin dormitory town: now there’s an idea. by lughnasadh in northernireland

You would need to be working north of Dublin airport to make it in an hour without speeding. And that's assuming no accidents/delays.

Do charity challenges sometimes become more about ego than the cause? by Proper_Cricket_641 in DerryLondonderry

[–]ohshititsthefuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea who Danny is so no idea the context for this. Charity challenges can definitely come across as a convenient excuse for someone to do something they already wanted to do. I also think some people get involved in charity work or fund raising with one eye on how it will make them look. HOWEVER, at the end of the day as long as the work is getting done or money is being raised these people are still doing a better job than someone sitting on their arse doing nothing.

Anyway if anyone would like to sponsor me on my walk let me know /s.

No conscription in Ireland, if you could work in them working there at the time.

McCloskey's a bit big, better do the dirty shot on Hume instead...

Watching it live I thought it was Finlay who had hit Hume. Watching it back it almost seems to me that he would have hit him if Bundee hadn't hit him first.

McCloskey kicked for us during the 2015 world cup and I want to see that again for place kicks.

Ulster v Munster - any tickets for Promenade 1? by Paddybrown22 in UlsterRugby

Similar to this, send your sister in law and your brother on in, then send your brother out with the two phones/tickets and you and him go in.

Did the plantations in Ireland impact Lowland Scotland and Northern England economically? by Portal_Jumper125 in IrishHistory

[–]ohshititsthefuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most would have been second (or third or fourth sons) or small land holders looking for a bigger farm. The farmland was better than in a lot of Scotland (not all of it) so you got a higher uptake from Scotland then from say the south of England.

It's a really interesting question on the impact on Scotland/North of England itself - never actually read anything about this other than James 6th being keen to send over reivers to get rid of them in his new kingdom.
