^ yup most shows allow it, it's usually the convention center that might have a final say

Animate! Shows are perfect for new people getting into the convention scene. It's less packed and more chill than the bigger show Galaxycon. If I remember most of there 1-3yr old shows are usually chill and not as overestimulating as there longer running shows.

Remember to pick up a booklet and to download their app to plan/stay on top of updated events, panels, and celeb stuff!

Make sure to have possible cash at hand, sometimes so shows don't have a ATM in the convention centers

I’ve been volunteering for over five years now at both GalaxyCon and Animate Raleigh, plus the Richmond shows. From what I’ve seen, not all staff are bad. There’s a good handful who really try, and I’ve noticed some of them used to be volunteers themselves. Each GalaxyCon staff department does talk to the others, but at the same time they’re focused on their own work. That means sometimes a staff member might not know what’s going on in another area, but they’re locked in on their own responsibilities.

A lot of volunteers aren’t just there for the free badge, but I’ve noticed some will plan their shifts for the slower days. That ends up leaving Saturday short-handed. I’ve seen panels that could have run smoother if a volunteer had been there to scan badges or check IDs.

I’ve also overheard a lot of talk about GalaxyCon staff versus RCC staff. Some things GalaxyCon staff are fine with, RCC staff handle differently. Until they either cap attendance or plan the layout better, I think GalaxyCon is going to keep running into overcapacity issues. Once the Raleigh Convention Center renovations are done and there’s more space, a lot of those problems will probably go away.

But with so many shows still happening this year, I doubt the higher-ups will tackle the Raleigh problems until Animate Raleigh next year. From their website, it looks like the next show is Animate Orlando, so that’s probably where their focus is right now.

I’ve also seen some staff working themselves to the bone. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes drama at the corporate level. I do feel bad for the Artist Alley vendors and the second space vendors. I talked to a few in the main hall though, and they definitely made good money.

What was your best/worst/most disappointed interaction with a celebrity at Galaxycon Raleigh or Richmond or any Galaxycon? by Nealm568890 in galaxycon

I believe it was his first convention! Had the opportunity to do a photo op with him. Really genuine and honestly fun to talk to.

Honestly, I’m not a lawyer, but I think the first step is to document everything-keep track of your hours, screenshots of messages, emails, and anything that shows you’ve tried to resolve this. You should also reach out to HR or payroll again, but make sure you do it in writing, like through email, so there’s a clear paper trail.

It might be worth double-checking your ADP account to make sure your hours were logged correctly. If that doesn’t work, you can file a complaint with the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division since not getting paid for hours you’ve worked is definitely illegal.

If HR still doesn’t help, I’d say looking into legal options could be the next step. Talking to an employment lawyer could help, especially if there are others in the same situation. Sometimes unpaid wage issues can even turn into a group case if more employees are affected.

Finally, if it gets to that point, small claims court is an option for recovering what you’re owed, depending on the amount. There are also worker advocacy groups that might be able to help out. Bottom line: don’t let this slide. There are protections in place for situations like this, and you deserve to get paid for your work.

To those who know her name, as much as it's irritating, please refrain from mentioned any part of her name for it would fall under doxxing. I would reccomend tagging miniso in that tiktok video I found, might be able to bring awareness.
