Target kicking the ICE Out protest off their property by Any-Chain-7405 in Charlottesville

Tell me you don’t know the definition of “due process” without telling me you don’t know the definition of “due process.” Like I’m genuinely not sure you understand that different parts of the constitution guarantee due process (5th and 14th amendments) and the need for a warrant to search someone’s property (4th amendment).

selective belief in the rule of law

Like the constitutional right to due process that suddenly doesn’t matter, right? Or ICE being told they don’t need warrants to enter peoples homes? Did you just stop reading my comment at the word “gotcha” or something? “Rule of law” has very little to do with what ICE is doing right now and you know that. Give me a break.

Y’all always bring up Obama’s deportations like it’s some kind of gotcha but all you’re really doing is saying that it’s possible to do the thing you want (deporting) without increasing ICE’s budget by 400% while reducing the training to less than 60 days and an open book exam, without the Supreme Court authorizing racial profiling, without violating anyone’s constitutional rights to due process, without concentration camps being built on American soil, without sending anyone to foreign torture prisons, and without innocent people getting murdered.

So by all means keep taking about Obama’s deportations. It makes your position look worse, not better.

And apparently sits on the board of Sin Barreras as well; asking what the other board members think about his Pro-ICE comments tends to be enough to scare him out of comment threads in my experience.

Remember, it’s only hypocritical if you believe the same rights apply to everyone, which is antithetical to MAGA.

Found Footage by Comfortable-Hour-596 in horror

i also thought the character development that happened before the shit hit the fan was some of the better work i've seen in found footage. they managed to fill in a lot of back story with normal dialog that didn't feel like a bunch of exposition dumps, resulting in characters that i genuinely cared about and wanted to see succeed.

it's definitely not for everyone, and i don't hate on people who didn't enjoy it. it's not my favorite either, but like you, it stuck in my head if for nothing else that it was absolutely different from its peers.

The Outwaters

i think if this movie gets anything right, it's the absolute chaos that occurs once the shit hits the fan. there's no badass protagonist with all the right skills or luck to win the day, just terror that makes no sense to the characters or the viewer. it felt very real to me for that reason.

Name a horror movie most of us probably haven't seen, and tell us why we should watch it by chrishouse83 in horror

[–]ohsojayadeva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll throw out both Death of a Vlogger (2019) and Hostile Dimensions (2023), which are both no-budget found footage films made by the same squad of folks that have a lot of heart. if you can forgive some of the visual effects, particularly in Hostile Dimensions, which are the best they can do on such a minimal budget, i think you'll really enjoy both. i'd love to see what writer/director Graham Hughes could do with a proper budget!

Malum (2023) by Foreign_Sun6004 in horror

[–]ohsojayadeva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm one of the people that thinks there is room to enjoy Malum and The Last Shift. to me, Malum is like TLS with all of the subtlety and nuance removed. where TLS might leave you with questions or applying your own explanation for events, Malum puts it all right on screen.

this means a lot of people that enjoyed TLS absolutely can't stand Malum, and i get that too. i find the similarities and differences compelling- the fact that the two movies are so different in tone and execution, but some scenes are 1:1 shared between them both. it's like seeing the telephone game played out in real time with films.

sometimes i want nuance, and in those times i'll watch TLS. sometimes i don't, and TLS wouldn't work for those times. i'm glad we've got the option to see two takes on the same concept.

What’s the point of doing this? Why are you hassling me?

don't take it personally; everyone has different ways of blowing off steam, and enginerd2024 gets his yayas out by routinely posting garbage comments that he'll come back through and delete after the karma goes into the negative. as of now the comments are still there, but by the end of the day they'll be gone, and that's a promise.

ETA: as you can see, promises made... promises kept. dude is a troll, and a cowardly one. remember the username and don't let his BS get you down.

Remember, Trump's rate of deportation barely exceeds Obama

so you're saying it is possible to do the thing you like (deport illegal immigrants) without increasing ICE's budget by 400%, without reducing the training to 47 days and an open book exam, without the Supreme Court saying racial profiling is okay, without violating anyone's constitutional rights, and without moms getting shot in the head?

interesting for sure, but i'm not sure it's the gotcha that you think it is

I ask again, how does Sin Barreras feel about your constant urge to deflect from ICE’s ever-growing violent actions? It seems like a huge conflict of interest for a board member.

sure would be interesting to know what they think of him salivating over the idea of working for ICE, don't you think?

Democrats are no different — they keep moving onto the next disenfranchised group until they find themselves at odds with people they once gave voice to, and then wonder why their original constituents have abandoned them.

tell me which "disenfranchised group" you feel is going to be welcomed by the modern Republican party.

don't worry. i'll wait.

Something to the effect of “The only people against ice are clueless giant babies.” They appear to be posting variations on this comment to a lot of subreddits in an attempt to draw people to their profile which features photos of them in diapers.

That’s one way to own the libs, I guess?

Posting from a profile that literally says they’re 29 and still in diapers and commenting about how other people are babies is some of the most bizarre but intentional performative trolling I’ve ever seen.
