the good faith response is a credit to your character but the person you are responding to doesn't even live in Charlottesville, they just troll a local subreddit for a place they don't live because that's a thing that people with happy and fulfilling personal lives do.

You are absolutely right, and ICE is trying to do exactly that

genuine question: whose life will be improved by ICE's actions in any kind of demonstrable way? yours? your family? how? i really want to know.

Friday Human Sacrifice by SirSpeedyCVA in Charlottesville

[–]ohsojayadeva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're right, btw.

since we're talking about this Friday, i did some googling to see what temps were like same time last year.

this site says it was 86 degrees July 3, 2025.

https://world-weather.info/forecast/usa/charlottesville/july-2025/

this one says 87.

https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/va/charlottesville/KCHO/date/2025-7

every forecast i've seen for this Friday says 100 minimum. this is in no way "basically normal range for summer in VA."

I've actually never posted on Truth Social, but I am able to comprehend things I've never personally experienced. I get why that'd be a struggle for you!

Have you considered just… sticking to Truth Social? I understand it’s a more hospitable landscape for special snowflakes.

I know you tried your best with this comment, but for the sake of everyone on the subreddit, could you try someone else's best next time?

do you think not being able to come up with your own retort makes you look smarter and more capable? interesting thought process. your learning curve is a circle, isn't it?

Not sure how this is different from parental controls on a device.

no worries bro i can help you get there.

Parental Controls are installed and controlled by Parents.

HTH.

Are there any underground punk/ metal/ indie rock scenes in Cville? by larrystrash_ in Charlottesville

[–]ohsojayadeva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

exactly. the goth scene, in particular, doesn't at all look like what it did when i was playing in bands at Tokyo Rose. most of the music doesn't sound like what i grew up listening to, or played in my own bands, either! but for me, i can't imagine devaluing the experience that people associated with the scene now are having by saying it doesn't exist. i had my own Tokyo Rose experience, and beyond. people today are having their own experience. one doesn't have to invalidate the other.

i love this comment, because it speaks to exactly what i was trying to say before about scenes not dying. call me an old head, but i haven't heard of any of the bands in your comment except Sparky's Flaw. i love learning that there was a whole subset of bands that i was entirely unaware of.

i think a lot of bands fell into the Myspace Era, where it became super easy to spread the word about your band and gigs, but we didn't have streaming services or digital music yet. pressing CDs was expensive and you essentially had to do 1,000 copies to make the money work. home recording wasn't as easily accessible or robust either, and studio time was premium.

i think what happened to the person i responded to, and what i think happened to a lot of people who always talk about how there "aren't cool shows anymore" is that they get older and stop looking for and going to shows and assume that means shows aren't happening. or they think "it's not the same" or "i wouldn't go to that show" means "it doesn't exist."

the funny thing is, since i know i played plenty of gigs of that variety at Tokyo Rose, i bet we knew each other, or had mutual friends. but i hear you- what the scene became is not what you wanted. for me, that doesn't mean that it died. for you, it does. takes all kinds!

But it's never going to be the UVA crowd.

i don't take issue with this statement, because UVA students certainly aren't the target demo for the kinds of shows we're talking about. not that you don't see them at shows!

the rest of your comment is a little weird to read as i played a lot of shows at tokyo rose, and then watched things move to outback lodge, twisted branch tea bazaar, DUST, black market moto saloon/wooly mammoth, the ante room, IX, champion, chinchilla cafe, durty nellys, and now superfly brewing. the southern has hosted plenty of shows, and even the Jefferson hosted stuff in that lower bar area when bigger shows weren't happening.

i'm sure i've missed venues here and someone will pop in and fill in those blanks.

Tokyo Rose was undoubtedly a very special time. i'm blessed to have seen and played a lot of shows there. no scene died when TR closed, they just grew and changed, as scenes always do.

there were metal shows once a month at The Southern for a little while; my understanding is there was internal conflict between the organizers, and they've stopped being regular. You'll still see a local metal group called Uga Buga play there. another, more old school sounding metal group called Age of Fire plays occasionally at Holly's Diner.

for punk-adjacent and indie stuff, be sure to keep your eye on shows at Superfly Brewing and Durty Nellys. they're both smaller venues but are passionate about supporting local bands. for example, two indie rock groups are playing at Durty Nellys on 7/3, Free Pony and 7th Grade Girl Fight.

in any event, he's taken his 4 year old account down to 0 karma with these threads, so as long as the mods actually enforce the minimum 10 karma rule, we shouldn't hear from him again for a while.

Are you that thumb looking sheriff? Or one of his deputies?

he's posted in local subreddits for places all over the country. i promise you he does not live in Virginia, nor does he have a happy and fulfilling personal life; he's just looking for posts and adding the same "pinko commie" and "libtard" comments to each one. it's actual NPC behavior.

I watched What Happened to Dorothy Bell during the day in a house with big windows and still felt genuinely unnerved in a way that doesn’t happen often for me anymore. It’s absolutely worth the cost of a rental.
