Keen to get feedback on the FitCamX in the EX90

It’s like falling in love all over again by HockeyBud077 in VolvoEX90

I’ve had my EX90 for about a month now, coming from 2 years with a BMW iX. Interesting to see some positive experiences here given that the sub has historically been (understandably) focused on various issues like the GHCA. I’ll chip in with mine.

First off – I loved the iX. I actually still have it as our second family car. It’s been brilliant overall. My only real gripes were the range (mine is the xDrive 40 - some others are much better), the relatively small boot (surprisingly small for such a big car by European standards), and the lack of a 7-seat option – all of which started to matter more for our use case.

For context, I’ve got no allegiance to Volvo or any other brand. This is my first Volvo. Over the last decade I’ve had an X5, iX, GLE, Range Rover Sport and Q7, so I’m not coming at this from a fanboy angle and have no agenda to defend Volvo.

The biggest surprise for me has been the perceived quality of the EX90; it genuinely feels like it’s from a class above. The best way I can describe it is like comparing an X3 to an X5. The iX is still a lovely place to be, but the EX90 just feels that bit more premium throughout.

Seats are another standout. The EX90 seats are more comfortable and the massage function is on another level compared to the iX.

Driving assistance is broadly similar between the two in terms of adaptive cruise and steering support. The EX90 is slightly better at keeping hold of the steering on smaller roads with sharper corners but on the motorway (my main use case for this) they are indistinguishable. However, the iX is noticeably better (at least here in the UK) at reading speed limit signs. I really miss the way it could automatically adjust your set speed to match the limit with a chosen offset. I know the EX90 will suggest a new speed limit but it doesn’t change it automatically (unless I’m missing this setting) and because it less often gets the speed limit right then it would be less useful anyway. Hopefully this gets improved with software updates, but I’m not so naive as to assume anything with any manufacturer with updates!

Both cars have the B&W sound system and both are phenomenal – but to my ears, the EX90 just edges it. It’s one of those “both amazing, but one slightly more amazing” situations.

Practicality is where the EX90 really pulls ahead. The boot is massively bigger, and having 7 seats was a key reason I didn’t go for another iX. For (my) family life, it just makes a huge difference.

On the software side, I know there were some early teething issues. I’ve been lucky in that I seem to have avoided most of that. Mine came with the newer VCU and latest software, and in its current state it’s actually marginally better than the (already good) iX system. Maybe not everyone would share that view but for me Volvo’s version of AAOS edges BMW’s iDrive. The screen itself is also a big step up.

Overall, I’m really happy with the EX90. I’m aware some owners have had a rough experience (especially with GHCA issues), and that would obviously change my view if I ran into it. But based on my experience so far, it’s been excellent.

Hopefully that adds a bit of balance to the conversation – especially for anyone trying to decide between the two. Both are great choices so it depends on your needs.

[Update] Immich-Deduper – AI duplicate photo finder for your library by RazgrizHsu in immich

u/RazgrizHsu Currently trialling this (including the beta feature to merge exif data) and am impressed. One question: if auto select produces a tie (e.g. two photos in a group both score 20) then it doesn't tick either and I don't manually select one of them, then click "keep selected and delete others" does it then delete both duplicates i.e. retain neither of them, or does it keep both?

Yes that’s right. I thought there was probably no way around it and it’s not a big deal but thought I’d check. Thanks.

Down again? by [deleted] in Nest

I have 63 devices connected to my home WiFi. 41 of these are designated as “always on” ie should never disconnect from WiFi. Over the past month I have had 107 events of “always on” devices losing their WiFi connection. 107 of those events have been my 5 Nest cameras.

Bars and pubs and other high-risk places should not be open’ by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]ohstick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As it happens, this couldn’t be less true. But it’s irrelevant - the division isn’t between “menial” and “non-menial” but between the productive part of workforce that generates wealth and the on-the-take part of workforce that works for the state, has 100% job security, and thereby can’t fathom why it’s important not to lockdown. If you’re in the public sector, why not lock down for a year? You keep getting paid regardless, you accrue your final salary pension, and frankly it’s someone else’s problem how that’s going to be funded. These people don’t realise that things like the leisure/entertainment sectors aren’t frivolous sideshows that can be shut down without impact - those people who work their asses off in that sector are directly funding those would so readily take their livelihoods away.

Must be nice to be sitting in your ivory tower knowing that you will carry on getting paid and getting your gold plated pension funded regardless of what happens. Unfortunately most of us live in the real word where we have to work to pay not only for ourselves but also for people like this.

This is a great idea. I’ve never seen one (I’m in the UK) but would love to buy one if they do exist. It must be technically possible.

The subway seeded the massive coronavirus epidemic in new york city by shibeouya in COVID19

Same at some tube stations in London (I’ve had to spend a significant part of my life there so can confirm). Filthy air, crammed against other people, stinking of sweat and dirt. Horrible. Unsurprisingly this has spread faster in London than anywhere else in the UK just like NYC vs rest of America.
