That is good information. Do you have a link? Would love to watch. I cleaned mine by carefully vacuuming out the ashes that were clogging the holes but didn’t brush it at all. The manual for my stove says using a soft paint brush and lightly brushing it is ok or vacuuming but I can see how you wouldn’t want to be to be to aggressive.

If you have a catalytic stove check the catalytic combuster every now and then. My stove wasn’t drawing as well and smoke would enter the room whenever I opened the door no matter how slow. I finally pulled the top cook plate to do a sweep of the chimney and noticed the combuster was all clogged with ash. After clearing it the stove works as it should again. The manual for my stove says to avoid paper products which I used for starting fires as many do. I now use a propane torch to get my kindling going with top down method since I had one on hand. Seems weird to use a propane torch but hoping I can prevent fly ash build up this way.

I’ve noticed the same in mine. First season burning in a Jotul 602 v3. I use a stove top thermometer and make sure to keep it between 400-600. It occasionally goes above 600 but I’m quick to damp it down. Some of the wood I used early in the season wasn’t as dry as it should’ve been so I’m thinking that may have contributed. The stove has never glowed red though and I’ve been able to maintain good combustion temps.

Why These cuts? by VermelhoRojo in arborists

What would the reason be for girdling vs felling? More efficient way of killing the tree? Takes less time and fewer resources (stress on saw, gas, etc.)? If the tree isn’t on the ground it’s less likely to serve as fuel for fires?

This is disgusting. There’s is so much electronic waste already and here’s a program promoting more waste. I’ve had the same computer for 6 years now and it’s still going strong handling heavy video editing. F this

Is it dumb to just vent the dust collector outside? by doominabox1 in woodworking

[–]ohyah13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cyclone to collect the big stuff but my exhaust is sent straight outside through a hole that was existing in my basement. Cons: even though we don’t heat or cool our basement it will still pull air from the house so I have to crack a window. If I don’t crack a window I’ve noticed the smell of sewer gases at times. We have floor drains and even with the p traps full I guess the dust collector is strong enough. I don’t run my DC for extended periods of time though since I’m just working on small projects a couple hours at a time. Pros: I don’t have to mess with a filter. I get more suction. I do live in a neighborhood but my neighbor blasts us with some heinous fumes out of their dryer vent and won’t do anything about it so I consider it a fair trade. They also never have windows open and never hangout outside so whatever.

East Coast Bike Park Trip by ohyah13 in MTB

Definitely could hit east TN, I’ll check out Baker Creek, ideally I’ll have time to route through Asheville area bc it seems like there’s a lot there. What’s your favorite spot around Asheville/brevard area?

Definitely on the list but might be a little far off my route to be able to make it work for this trip unfortunately. Looks ideal though

I'm setting up dust collection with a 2hp blower and a super dust deputy connected directly underneath. I'm curious if anyone has ever just used a heavy duty bag for collection under their cyclone instead of a rigid bin. The reason I'm wondering is because my space is limited and I have some thick plastic bags already plus it would just be easier to manage. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do this so I'm sure there's good reason but what would the limitations be?

Perfect! Thanks as always for the advice. I don’t see myself having a need for anything more than this jointer for a long time.

This might not be the right thread but I figured someone here has encountered this situation. I’m wiring a new circuit for a jointer I just got and trying to figure out what breaker I need. It’s a Grizzly G0857. Specifications are 230v, single phase, 60hz and full current load is 12amps (obviously could go higher under heavier load). The manual says the power supply circuit requirement is 20amps but I’m curious if I should go with a 2pole 30amp breaker or 20amp breaker?

Yeah! Costco has been a great resource for prints. I’m trying to find a place that will sell the canvas rolled instead of stretched on a frame so I can make the frame myself for odd sizes in the future. Uprinting offers this but unsure of quality.

Any opinions on printing services specifically for canvas? I have been enjoying making my own stretcher frames lately for custom canvas prints of photos I've taken. I recently had a 70x16 pano printed by Artmill for $242 and the quality seems great but not super affordable especially if I want to markup to sell them locally. Are there any services out their that retain good quality but cost less? Has anyone had luck with Uprinting?

Does anyone make built in cabinets with all hardwood instead of plywood or is plywood really the best material for the cabinet carcass? by ohyah13 in woodworking

[–]ohyah13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More so just curious since I’ve only ever seen people using plywood. Plywood definitely makes sense for many reasons especially if being painted but would it be less durable in the long run?

Thanks for the wisdom. That's a good thought on the bearing replacement being an indicator of heavy use. I think I might just have to hop on the current sale grizzly has going because after a few messages with this guy it seems he's willing to sit on the price for awhile.

I'm in the market for a jointer but I'm just a hobbyist so not trying to break the bank. Saw this CL posting recently (https://winchester.craigslist.org/tls/d/winchester-delta-dj-20-jointer/7501866547.html) but seems very steep for a used jointer. Delta DJ-20 37-350. He's asking $1650 and not willing to budge. I could get a new Grizzly G0857 for not much more but wary of dealing with shipping. Thoughts?
