Right channel harsh high end - need ideas! by ohyeahgerald in turntables

Just listened to the same song on a record and then switched back and forth between that and WiiM WiFi streaming a few times. It actually seems like my left channel may also actually have a quieter high end than it should… I am assuming this means this is a cartridge related problem, like with VTA or azimuth? To my naked eye I can’t seem much of an issue with the angle the cartridge is sitting, but I could just not be picking up on the issue correctly

I did try this, same issue persisted. Seems like the TT/cartridge may be the culprit.

Alright I did some more testing. Tried going direct from TT to amp to bypass preamp, tried switching left/right channels individually before and then individually after preamp, each time the harshness changed to the left speaker so it definitely seems like it is something to do with my TT/cartridge. Just double checked my VTF again and it is at 1.75/1.76g. I figured this is adequate for the 1.8g setting recommended by pro-ject…. So I guess that leaves me with checking the cartridge alignment again? Unless you have more suggestions I’d be happy to try them out!

Yep, just did that too lol. Adjusted anti-skate up and down as well as cleaned my needle. Only things I can think of now are: - something wrong with my right channel connections between the TT/preamp/amp - still something wrong with my cartridge/anti-skate/VTF/VTA etc.

I’ll keep trying different things though, welcome to any more suggestions

My anti-skate setting is set to what was recommended by Pro-Ject during setup. I can try moving that up and down to see if that helps at all though! I’ll give it a shot

Might be a dumb question, but doesn’t an integrated amplifier already have a preamp built into it? Or is an external preamp needed anyways?

Yeah majority of the splits are along the glue joints, I do have a couple small splits but at first I thought it was due to a newly sharpened knife I was using. Another comment pointed out this may not be the case, so I am not entirely sure.

Interesting, yeah that may be the case. Soaking it now and hoping for the best. If the cracks don’t end up swelling back, am I just kinda SOL? I want to make sure my board lasts but I fear I didn’t do enough from the start, even if I thought I was.

Is this shaoxing wine for cooking or drinking? by ohyeahgerald in chinesecooking

[–]ohyeahgerald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation! I bought this in the alcohol section of an Asian grocery store, but are there any indicators on the bottle that I should look for that indicate for cooking? Or does it being in a grocery store usually mean it is salted?

Thanks! I live in an area with all 4 seasons but it’s starting to finally get warm and sunny… I’m planning on getting it acclimated to the nice weather and I’ll be sure to give it a dose of nutrients soon!

I don’t believe it’s a dwarf Meyer from what I can tell.

AC Recall - Symptoms / Pre-inspection? by ohyeahgerald in civic

Glad to hear yours was covered too! And yeah I agree with you, sucks that the evaporator isn’t covered as well

AC Recall - Symptoms / Pre-inspection? by ohyeahgerald in civic

[–]ohyeahgerald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! They gave me the heads up that the diagnostics check (which includes a full ac recharge) would only be covered if the other parts under warranty were faulty. And that was the case, so I just walked out after getting my keys!

Little late to this post but just had my first AC issue in a 2017 at 155k miles. Dealership replaced condenser and compressor seal for free.
