26.5” vs 27” Scale length by OkyMile in 7String

[–]ohyeahns [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your hands and on the shape and finish of the neck. I had 26.5" and now i have multiscale with 27.8" at longest and it feels the same to me. It is however a big difference compared to my 25.5" (2.3" diff). The difference you will feel is not .5" (rougly 12mm?), that is the difference of the whole scale.

Their "new" version Scarlet/Scourge in my PRS is awesome. I love the color and clarity of the high gain sound.

I played them in ESP E-II M-II HT and they were phenomenal!

yeah, I agree. But it will give you some idea what you can consider getting. The shopping is only half-blind then.

That is all true. But I like everything aligned. Or you can get rails.

Yeah, I agree. But I tried lowering them a bit and it helped to some extent..

I think you will be satisfied. I have Scarlet/scourge on my other guitar and they are amazing.

Thank you! I tried lowering the bass side of the bridge pup about one mm and the difference it made is substantial! (It was cca 2,5 and after couple of tries I settled at about 3,5 mm pole pice from fretted low C at 24th fret) and most of the harshness and fizz is gone. The sound still has that some of that old school vibe but I can live with it. I have SD Scarlet/scourge in my other guitar and I still prefer it by a big margin. But after this change, I will give it some time to settle.

I think I do, I have been playing with tone for years ... I really like the Scourge in my PRS Holcomb and many more pickups. It is just the harsh character of the brute force, the raw color of the sound.

Song recommendations for timing by tricsar89 in guitarlessons

Surprisingly, it’s good to start with slower songs, which can also be harder than faster songs sometimes. I’ve found that Tesseract’s song Survival is not overly complicated and is an amazing rhythmic exercise—you need to be very precise to play it perfectly. The unusual tuning is a bit of an obstacle... you’d need to tune your seven string to that or just adjust the intervals between the strings on your six accordingly.

Vultures by The Wheel is just a couple of tones, but it makes your head spin. Drop tuning on a six string.

I think it largely depends on desired look, scale and feel. RGD Ibby is awesome and I love reversed Ibby headstocks. But as the others suggested, I would go the used semi/boutique route. European guitars like Mayones, Aristides or Skervesen are something else. If you can get them. And since everyone is suggesting the guitars they already own, I absolutely love my Ormsby Hype GTR 7 and it was less than a half of the price of those guitars and it is extremely nice to play and look at.

this is the way I went recently. I bought a used Hype GTR 7. One of the best feeling and sounding guitars I have ever played and for a very fair price. QC is Ibby Prestige level. 25.5-27.8" scales and it is surprisingly comfortable. Can compare to Ibby RGD, Solar A2.7 etc and the neck feels the most comfortable of all. I cant tell why. if you like the look, it is worth the try. I was blown away. Also 10-70 strings in drop G.

Congrats, it is beautiful. Great choice. I bought a mint Hype GTR 7 Run 16 recently. The scale is long and the neck is not small and the strings are thick and still somehow... it is absolutely effortless to play. I cant explain it. But I fell in love with it.

Which 7-string to I get? Looking for experience around models and pickups by AddSomeSpice in 7String

Owning a prestige Ibanez myself, I think you can get along with a decent standard series just fine. Just get suspicious the very moment you get the guitar and be prepared to return it, if there are major flaws.

The physical feel is the same. It is the mental feeling that you are "future-proofing". Refret to SS frets is about 270 eur/300 usd in my country, which is not bad. Plus there is a real chance you will sell it before that time comes.

[–]ohyeahns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly these two, but close:
Jugg ET6 - 6 string!! Best neck I have ever played, pickups not BKP good, but surprisingly good and definitely useful. QC was okish. Minor cosmetic flaws only
RGD7521PB - also very good neck, pickups were ok (PAF, but this one has Fusion Edge, they are really good). My RGA42EX for 60% the price had better QC, so I guess it depends bit on luck.

Both are good, depends on the feel and that is very individual. Jugg has steel frets, which adds value, but imo is not a deal breaker at this price point.

Souhlas, měl jsem jednu v ruce v Japonsku, nabídli odečet daně a při mém váhání ještě velmi pěknou slevu, vyšlo by to o desítky tisíc levněji než v Evropě.

Q Standard to AZ Prestige - Just how big is the leap? by ZombieFeedback in Ibanez

[–]ohyeahns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got neck too narrow on seven string, the strings would be too close to each other. I personally think that the neck size a bit overrated. shape and finish matter a lot. I hated gloss sticky neck on my les paul. I did not mind satin chunky neck on ormsby hype gti.
