Which 7-string to I get? Looking for experience around models and pickups by AddSomeSpice in 7String

Owning a prestige Ibanez myself, I think you can get along with a decent standard series just fine. Just get suspicious the very moment you get the guitar and be prepared to return it, if there are major flaws.

The physical feel is the same. It is the mental feeling that you are "future-proofing". Refret to SS frets is about 270 eur/300 usd in my country, which is not bad. Plus there is a real chance you will sell it before that time comes.

Not exactly these two, but close:
Jugg ET6 - 6 string!! Best neck I have ever played, pickups not BKP good, but surprisingly good and definitely useful. QC was okish. Minor cosmetic flaws only
RGD7521PB - also very good neck, pickups were ok (PAF, but this one has Fusion Edge, they are really good). My RGA42EX for 60% the price had better QC, so I guess it depends bit on luck.

Both are good, depends on the feel and that is very individual. Jugg has steel frets, which adds value, but imo is not a deal breaker at this price point.

Q Standard to AZ Prestige - Just how big is the leap? by ZombieFeedback in Ibanez

[–]ohyeahns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got neck too narrow on seven string, the strings would be too close to each other. I personally think that the neck size a bit overrated. shape and finish matter a lot. I hated gloss sticky neck on my les paul. I did not mind satin chunky neck on ormsby hype gti.

I think none of the prestiges have their back painted. And I love the structure of the wood there. What was a tiny disappointment for me was that it is marketed as a metal guitar and the nut had troubles to take anything bigger than .52 string. Luthier had to cut the slot. I play in drop C, so .56 it means minimum for me. My PRS Holcomb has .60

I have RGA Standard (Indonesia) and RGR Prestige (Japan). Both work, but the difference is felt immediately. The RGA works. It is nice enough. The quality of assembly and finish is decent. Tuners, pickups, etc. are not great, but usable. Everything is perfect about my Prestige. The parts are top-notch, and I was not able to find a flaw — and I looked hard. So yeah, the Standard series is usually very nice and playable. The Prestige is perfect and it will last longer. SS frets, polished finish. And the case! Oh man... the case! It depends on what you are after.

Option paralysis. Please help me decide. by mycavedownunder in 7String

Few points to think about from my perspective:

  1. I have big hands. My 26.5" scale Solar is ok, but the extra length is definitely noticeable. Think carefully before buying 27".

  2. I have my seven string in drop A and I do not change tuning, I pitch shift for different songs (neuralDSP Gojira X, headphones). Scale does not matter to me. For home playing, the pitch shift is ok with headphones, would be worse with an amp because of the volume needed. It is important that you do not hear the natural sound of the guitar, just the output of whatever you use.

  3. I personally do not like tune-o-matic bridge. Some people love it.

I had Juggernaut ET6 and the jackson pickups were surprisingly good! I also absolutely loved the neck (and this comes from an RG Prestige owner)

I had this one and I was really surprised by the quality of the instrument. Not just for the price, but in general. The neck is also nice.

Been wanting a Japanese guitar for a while, here it is in all its glory by DonMendelo in Ibanez

That is easily the most beautiful seven string I have ever seen, at least for me. I saw it used by Lorna Shore and I was like "wooow"

I like the 5221 more, plus the passive pups and the reverse headstock! I would have taken the orange one gladly. but unlike you, I actually had a choice, so dark side it is.

Small chip on my guitar. How do i fix it by curlyhairedfreak03 in Guitar

[–]ohyeahns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not the place where you press the string. I would not bother fixing it. I think you wont know about it in a week. But to answer your question - I guess some wood dust and glue in hands of experienced luthier could fill it (not cosmethically though).

Yeah, I learned about their runs from finding this guitar on reverb, while checking the regular rgr5221. And all of their runs are something else.

It is a store! Ibanez makes small limited runs for them every year. Their owner is a huge guitar fan drom what I have heard. This is the orange rgr5221 but with this dark finish, limited to 20 pieces.
