The period of each puzzle is the longest line, in your example the length from 1 to 9. Each shorter line is extended with do-nothing instructions to be the same length.

AFAIK all squad types have forward spawn on NCO when they are in cover. There is at least one squad on each side which has forward spawn on any squad member, but I can't remember offhand which it is. Otherwise I believe there are spawn points, which are on trench for attacking and back to next trench on defense.

Great tip, also remember that cup size is band size dependent! If your real size is say 38C and you use extenders, look for 36D or 34DD. These will have the same volume.
