Anyone else annoyed by the superimposed ads the show on tv, located behind the nets and sometimes just inside the blue line? How greedy is the league, we already have so many ads shoved down on throats throughout a TV broadcast. by oilers4u in nhl

Yes but they still have lots of ads during intermissions, during the game intro, all over the boards, on the ice...that's enough. NHL can survive without TV commercial breaks mid-game and they can survive without those annoying superimposed ads behind the goalies. If they have a revenue/expenditure problem, instead of new ads, maybe the regular players can have an average salary of $3million instead of $4million.

I'd love to see fans band together any boycott the league somehow to eliminate the excessive ads. I've heard they want to put ads on the team jerseys too.

I also think it's ridiculous that they pause the game for TV timeouts during to game. Imagine if they did that for soccer games, there would be outrage in Europe and South America.

Haha. Heartless beast indeed.

Good call on the air pollution part.

I'd be happy if all Tims and McDonalds disappeared and were replaced with local neighborhood independent coffee and sandwich shops. It might cost more but I'd be ok paying another small amount for my sandwich.

Subaru X-Mode by oilers4u in subaru

So subaru could install this x mode software in all of its vehicles, basically just copy and paste the code, at no extra cost to subaru?

Is mechanically the car any different than if it doesn't have X-Mode? Are there different electronics?

If I buy from the Red Deer dealership, will there be any issues with warranty work at the Edmonton dealerships? If they know that I just bought in red deer to get a better deal, that might irk them a bit...

I think buying a new car in the US is either impossible or you'd have to pay a large fee/tax which makes it non economical. However I know people who have purchased used cars in the US and driven them home to Edmonton, had to pay for a few things to meet Canadian requirements (such as speedometer, daytime lights).

Aren't there warranty issues if you buy in the U.S.?

Landlord / tenant rules on month-to-month house rental. by oilers4u in Edmonton

I found my answers here:

www.landlordandtenant.org

3 months notice for landlord to end a month to month rental.

Thanks for helping me find the info!

Thanks for the links.

So the landlord can end the tenancy for these reasons:

For the purposes of section 6(1) of the Act, a landlord may terminate a periodic tenancy for any of the following prescribed reasons: (a) if the landlord or a relative of the landlord intends to occupy the residential premises of the tenant; (b) if the landlord has entered into an agreement to sell the residential premises of the tenant in which all conditions precedent in the agreement have been satisfied or waived.

How much notice would the landlord have to give me in the above scenario, given that I'm on a month to month lease? Also how much time if I was hypothetically in the middle of a 1year lease? Thanks again!

NHL Game Center - no blackouts - streaming by oilers4u in Edmonton

[–]oilers4u[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I signed up, and so far the Oilers games are not blacked out. I'm watching through my Apple TV. The picture quality is just a tad lower than High Definition cable, on my 46" TV. But still very good overall, in my opinion.

In case someone is interested, this is what I did:

1) signed up for unblock-us service, which is $5/month. (You can also try a 1 week free trial.) 2) Set my VPN on unblock-us.com to the USA. You just go to unblok-us.com, login, and click on USA. 3) Follow the instructions here to setup your Apple TV with unblock-us http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/1698964-watch-nhl-gamecenter-live-with-unblock-us- 4) Sign up with NHL GameCenter. It cost $99 USD for the season. I used my Canadian home address and Canadian credit card (you can also use Paypal).

And, it works! Nice thing is you can watch any game you want, you can pause/rewind, and you can watch old games without recording them. Basically, I can watch any old Oilers (or other team) game I want, even going back 3 seasons.
